- Wow. This is the first I've heard of this. Not sure what to think yet. I like Activision and I like Blizzard. Hopefully this is a good thing.

That's not the name. Just check the Blizz website. -

- I think you should check out the Blizzard website, as it says right on there that the new organization will be called Activision Blizzard ;-)
Blizzard Entertainment will still exist, as a division of Activision Blizzard. The news post on www.blizzard.com is actually quite informative, as is their FAQ on it.
Overall, it sounds like they're just pooling money/knowledge, and not really 'merging' like most companies do.

- To be more correct, you should write that Vivendi and Activision have merged.

I disagree. Blizzard (currently owned by Vivendi) is merging with Activision. Vivendi is then plowing money into the project. Vivendi are still a company in their own right. In essence it's a division of them -

- It could be worse. They could have been acquired by EA.

- Activision has published some pretty cool games in their time. Don't know why you'd see them as scum.

- I never knew Blizzard was owned by another company.
Either way, hopefully this merge doesn't bring down Blizzard's quality. They are second to none when it comes to releasing a top notch game.

- Vivendi been trying to sell Blizzard for some time in the past.
It was so bad that a lot of key Blizzard dev's left Blizzard (and formed Anet which came out with Guildwars - The dev's for Starcraft and Battlenet especially) getting sick of hearing about news about there company and sale attempts coming more from gaming web sites vs internal information.
Overall, I don't see this as being too bad.
EA would of been a kiss of death.....

- This is good. United they stand a better chance of fending off EA, divided they will fall.

#13 Posted by +Dakkaroth on 04 Dec 2007 - 04:12
- So long as Blizzard doesn't drop in quality, I could care less.

- i dont think blizzard will be effected by this, but activison will, maybe theyll get some higher quality stuff

- I hope they concentrate on PC games.

- Given Blizzard's track history, they've been developing their products for PC only for as long as they've been in business. I know there have been a few ports to the console but those don't really count.
I guess we'll just have to wait and see what comes out of the cooker. -

- I usually associate the evil of EA with the size of their company. It seems the bigger a company gets, the more evil they get. I hope that doesn't happen here since this will make a company bigger than EA.

The merged business will be called Activision Blizzard and its chief executive will be Activision's current CEO Bobby Kotick. Vivendi will be the biggest shareholder in the group. Jean-Bernard Levy, Vivendi chief executive, said: "This alliance is a major strategic step for Vivendi and is another illustration of our drive to extend our presence in the entertainment sector. The two firms are hoping that their different strengths will combine to form a business which is powerful on every gaming platform and in every territory. "By combining Vivendi's games business with Activision, we are creating a worldwide leader in a high-growth industry."
