[How To]Standard PC replacement steps.

I have had a few people (from other companies) ask me the process I use when replacing a system within the company. So I figured I should post it here as well just in case other people were interested in my process.

There are in a specific order.
  • Configure for use on the Domain
  • Uninstall any productivity software pre-installed on the system
  • Install Anti-Virus (From a Flash drive)
  • Perform Windows Updates on system
  • Install Adobe Acrobat
  • Install Adobe Flash
  • Install Microsoft Office (Main office users)
  • Install Open Office (Call Center users)
  • Install Printers
  • Configure Browsers
  • Install private label software (Custom company software)
  • Remove access to Media player and Games
  • Add network drives
  • Lock down security settings

Obviously this list is going to change slightly from company to company, However this is the structured way we go about things here. It is rather quick. From recipt of the new system to the time it is Installed at the workstation is usually around an hour to an hour and a half.

When working with a high volume of new systems (we generally only receive one new system at a time.) Only configure one machine and create a Hard Drive image, Image all the machines using Ghost Cast or any other similar method and you can have around 50 machines done in 2 hours or so.

Always good to see how other people do this. It's pretty much the same way we used to do it at our old company but more organized. (Y)
