Yeah they are just overall terrible headphones. The design sucks, the sound sucks, and it's not worth it. Sennheiser does make good stuff though, I love me the HD 238

Quick question. Where exactly did you buy them from? Because there's a small chance you might have got a counterfeit pair, as there's lots of fake Sennheiser in-ear headphones around the internet.

Oh my... youve made a terrible mistake, the RE0s are "top end" IEM, with analytical sound, whilst the CXII are at teh very low low end...
You should've just bought comply tips or silicone tips for your RE0s via ebay.

I'd recommend that you get a new set of eartips for your RE0s. Get Comply foam tips as well; they're much better than the standard tips that most headphones come with. When I had the UE SuperFi 5 vi, they came with Comply foam tips, and they were great. I know you said you don't want to pay $20 for a replacement set of tips, but with the Comply tips, they're usually worth it, and seeing as they're for a top quality pair of headphones like the RE0s, I'd call that a sound investment.

These ones will fit your RE0s. And if you want the ones with the wax guard, here you go. I'm only going by what a review says fits them (they say it's the 400 model), because Head-Direct doesn't show up on their page, so if you want to be sure, contact them and ask which ones you'd need to buy.
