Sennheiser CX300-II's.

I've made a big mistake buying these. They sound terrible! It's all bass, there's no clarity to anything at all... it's as if the tunes are being played from behind a wall or something.

I was desperate though. Picked them up from work as I lost one of the tips to my old RE0's and I'm not paying like $20 for a replacement set. I've had pairs from Shure, Etymotic Research, Ultimate Ears, Klipsch and others in the past and was pretty pleased with the overall sound of those. But these... I don't understand why they've been so well-received.

...At least they're loud.

maybe theres something wrong with it?
since my previous ones sounded the same after I gave them a shower ;P

No, there is nothing wrong, they're brand new and this is how they're meant to sound. Switching from RE0's to these is a massive backwards jump. :[
Yeah they are just overall terrible headphones. The design sucks, the sound sucks, and it's not worth it. Sennheiser does make good stuff though, I love me the HD 238

Yeah. I was also surprised just how thin the cabling was. There must be hardly any strands or shielding in this thing. Also the connector isn't suitable for something portable.. it's gonna snap at some point. Poor design yo. :[

This is not worth £29.99.
Quick question. Where exactly did you buy them from? Because there's a small chance you might have got a counterfeit pair, as there's lots of fake Sennheiser in-ear headphones around the internet.

They're not counterfeit. I bought them from Maplin, which is where I work.

People seem surprised that I don't rate these earphones.. The fact is that they just literally do not sound good for the price you pay. Try some similarly priced alternatives such as the Head-Direct RE0's or Ultimate Ears SuperFi 4's for instance. Much better sound.
CX300 is cheap. but has perfect price/perf ratio
Oh my... youve made a terrible mistake, the RE0s are "top end" IEM, with analytical sound, whilst the CXII are at teh very low low end...
You should've just bought comply tips or silicone tips for your RE0s via ebay.
Still love my 6 year old PX100's ;)
Wow. I own a pair of these, and while they're not the best, they're sure worth the £10.99 I paid for them on Play.com! :p

"Similarly priced"? The CX300-IIs cost just £15, and the other two cost at least £50! And in my opinion, I reckon the SuperFI 4s will probably be overpriced, because I've had the SuperFi 5 vi before, they cost over £100, and they were disappointing. And to top it off, the cable was so weak, one side of them went after just a couple of months.

When it comes to in-ears, the Head-Direct RE0s are definitely near the top of the table, and so are the Klipsch Image S4s, which cost around the same. But when it comes to the best, I think that title goes to Shure with their SE535s. :)

But personally, I don't like in-ear headphones. :p They're too uncomfortable for me, and the sound is never as good as a proper full-size pair of headphones. That's why I've now got the Shure SRH840. Fantastic pair of headphones. :)

I'd recommend that you get a new set of eartips for your RE0s. Get Comply foam tips as well; they're much better than the standard tips that most headphones come with. When I had the UE SuperFi 5 vi, they came with Comply foam tips, and they were great. :) I know you said you don't want to pay $20 for a replacement set of tips, but with the Comply tips, they're usually worth it, and seeing as they're for a top quality pair of headphones like the RE0s, I'd call that a sound investment. :)

These ones will fit your RE0s. And if you want the ones with the wax guard, here you go. I'm only going by what a review says fits them (they say it's the 400 model), because Head-Direct doesn't show up on their page, so if you want to be sure, contact them and ask which ones you'd need to buy.

I'd recommend burning them in first. I bought the £20 ones from Maplin (like, y'know, the one that's to the left of the CX 300-IIs) and while obviously they're not super amazing, they seem to do the job nicely but only -after- I had burned them in. Give it time.

However if you want a decent pair of headphones and don't mind wearing cans the HD 203s we sell (A11KG) are wicked awesome and really pack a punch. They're only £30 on staff. If you've got a bit of cash I recommend giving those a try :)
