F**k me, I've got an iPhone!

I've finally got an iPhone! :D

I went down with my parents to the Carphone Warehouse yesterday to help them look at which phones they could upgrade to, as they've been eligible to upgrade for a fortnight now (October 14th, to be precise; the same day the iPhone 4S was released here). And would you believe it, they ended up buying an iPhone 4S! So in the space of two weeks, they went from "we can't afford a new contract; we're gonna switch to giffgaff when this one finishes" to "OK, let's buy a new iPhone!". And I swear that I did not motivate them in any way! :p

I've obviously benefited, because it means I finally get to upgrade from my second-hand Sony Ericsson K850i with the slightly dodgy battery holder, and missing 0 button substituted by a tiny ball of paper kept in with scotch tape. :p Now, I've got their old iPhone 3GS. :)

Had to help size down their backup a bit though, as they've gone from a white 32GB 3GS to a black 16GB 4S. I'm extremely happy at getting the 3GS, as it means I've now got a proper backup for my iPod Classic while it's away being repaired. :) (I tried to repair it myself, and it didn't really succeed :/ ) I was originally planning to use my HP TouchPad, but three drawbacks to that: It's only 32GB (so's the iPhone, to be honest), there's no Last.fm scrobbling, and it's bloody big. Despite the size, I can still fit it in my jacket pocket! ^_^ But yeah, I'll definitely be using the iPhone tomorrow. Just gotta go fill it up with music now...

...and then, on to OnLive to play F.E.A.R. 3 and Metro 2033 for free! :)

All while currently watching the Indian Grand Prix as well, of course ;)

3GS rocks!
dont need to **** you... you have an iphone ... your ****ed anyway xD LOOOL :D

read this much and I already approve.

Not too big on Windows Phone at the moment. It's probably better than Android, and it's definitely a million times better than Windows Mobile. :p I don't think I'm ready for it yet though. I was gonna say lack of apps is the main reason I'm in two minds about it at the moment, but there's over 30,000 on there at the moment, which is a hell of a lot more than on WebOS. :p I'd probably prefer to wait until it's definitely cemented its place as a mainstay in the mobile market before I consider it, like Android has done. I thought it was going to fail when it first came out, and I was definitely wrong there.

Windows Phone 7 (Y)

Its app number is growing at a rate faster than any other OS'. Even faster than iOS.
You only have to wait a little while until it gets the competition and with the recent EA exclusive games, oh boy.

However I want apps now not in a year or so time... :(

Its been merely a year since WP7 was announced. In a year 30000 apps are a stellar number compairing the history of iOS and Android.

I just checked the first-year number of apps for both Android Market and the App Store. Can only find a vague region for Android; somewhere below 20,000, probably around 15,000. And for the App Store, it had 55,000 apps in its first year, and that was what got the ball rolling.

It's definitely good progress for Windows Phone though, as I'd expect people to be sceptical about WP7, thanks to Windows Mobile. I know I was. :p
So u got an iphone to get laid?

No, I'd need a seven digit bank balance for that. :p

It's a quote from a stand-up comedian called Andy Parsons from his show, "Britain's Got Idiots". There's one bit when he mocks some of the audience who were recorded coming in before the start of the show, and person's showing off something on his iPhone to his wife, so he proceeds to take the mickey out of this guy, beginning with the link, "Oh f**k me, I've got an iPhone!" :p
Lube or No lube?
The 3GS is a great phone and performs really well. I run plethora of apps on it and it rarely shows any signs of slowing down. Congrats on your new old phone! Do remember to upgrade the iOS.

Ahh, now I have had a bit of a different experience so far. Mine has slowed down a few times before (it's improved now), and I'm one of the many non-iPhone 4 users on iOS 5 suffering from the broken Music app. :/ It started off lagging in switching songs, then crashing in the middle of playing songs, then it culminated in refusing to start up at all. It's thankfully working again now, since I took all my music off yesterday and resynced some more on, but still, it better be fixed in 5.0.1 along with the battery life issue in the 4S.

BTW, speaking of the iPhone 4S, my parents tried to return theirs on Friday, because, and I kid you not, the case they're using (which is made for the 3GS) is obscuring the light sensor so the screen doesn't turn itself back on while on the phone when you take it away from your face. Unfortunately for them, they can't return it. All they can do is get a replacement if it goes wrong, which sort of sucks for them, as they were really interested in the new HTC Titan which runs on Windows Phone 7.5 Mango; something that they never even bothered to look at when they got the 4S last week. Thankfully, dad's ordered a case made for the 4/4S, so they won't have that "problem" anymore. Also found the Zagg Invisible Shield for the 3GS that they bought but never bothered to put on, so I might go and put that on my phone later on. :p
I suggest getting a PowerSupport anti-glare screen protectors. It makes the screen smoother and no fingerprint smudges. It's a bit more expensive then those Zagg but the Zagg I had before felt rough after using PowerSupport.

I'm just gonna stick with a case. I don't really fancy applying the InvisibleShield, because of the stuff you've got to spray on top before you put the shield on, plus I've read quite a few negative reviews, mainly that the shields usually turn yellow after a while. :/

So yeah, I'll stick with a traditional case. My parents have bought a new case for their 4S, so I'll get their old one. It's not perfect, but it's better than nothing. :p

You make it sound like EA are producing games exclusive to the WP platform. They're just releasing games that are already out on iOS (and Android too I think) for Nokia WP.

I had a horrible experience with it on my iPhone 4; went yellow and started peeling off. Should've stuck to Power Support. Got a PS crystal film on right now - I highly recommend it!

Candor and honestly... Refreshing. There are some advantages to the iPhone, with regard to App availability, as you can be assured there is always an iPhone App, but Android and WP7 are less guaranteed right now.

The only things the WP7 would truly give you over the iPhone: Speed, stability, and easier to use. (And I doubt the last one is a concern, so the speed and stability would be the only real benefits to you at this time, but at the loss off App availability.)

Interesting blog note, and like I mentioned, refreshingly honest.

Suggestion, get one of the cheap, more disposable protectors, that you can change in a few seconds and has a nice feel to it. There are few out there for a under a couple of bucks/pounds/euros.

Besides the accidental scratches that will happen, the 'plastic' of the protector can also help with the 'tension' on the screen to keep it from shattering as easily.

You can then try a few cheap brands and rip it off in a second if you view it as more of a temporary/disposable protective covering.

I carry a few on all my phones/devices, and have given up on the more permanent protectors that have to be 'installed'. For example if I'm out working on classic cars/race cars in the shop, I slap one on the device, and don't have to worry about it...

The only devices I don't use them on are things that have real Gorilla Glass, as I have yet to get a scuff or scratch one, even in circumstances that I walk away thinking the device is Emma Frost. ;)

I think I'd add another one to that list, and I can scarcely believe I'm gonna say this: eye candy. I'm only saying I can scarcely believe it because it's a Microsoft product looking better than an Apple product highly regarded for its eye candy!

Microsoft definitely nailed the Metro UI with Windows Phone. Makes me glad it's coming to Windows 8 too. :)

Games that will be ages far from new iOS (and possibly Android) games due to lack of CPU/GPU of every Windows Phone.
