Locked out of "History of the World" game

Recommended Posts

Last night I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10.  I already had installed the game "History of the World" (Avalon Hill, 1997) in the folder C:\Program Files\HOTW.

Now that folder appears not to exist -- until I try to reinstall the game from the CD.  Then it "already exists."  This happens even when logged in as an administrator.

Microsoft -- you Visigoths -- give me back full access to my own computer!!!

A repair should reinstall the shortcuts one would have thought

Maybe history has been re-written! :eek!

There isn't any "Program Files (x86)" folder.  There is a "Windows.old", with Program Files underneath it, but HOTW isn't in there.  Start -> Settings -> Apps & Features doesn't show it installed either.

What for?  I'm trying to run it from the original CD (as its copy protection requires).

looks like a free download.... (abandonware)
