Mobilize.Net, a Microsoft partner dedicated to helping developers modernize their applications, has recently announced the availability of their free software development bridge that enables developers to migrate their existing Windows Phone 8.1 Silverlight apps to the Universal App Platform (UAP) in Windows 10.
The new bridge, which was first announced at Microsoft's BUILD 2015 conference, is an add-on for Microsoft's Visual Studio development software and reportedly offers the following advantages and features:
- Convert Windows Silverlight Phone 8.1 apps to Windows 10 apps
- Migrate workloads in 1/3 the time, 1/3 the normal cost
- Enables the top 80% of apps to be converted 80% of the way
- Includes mappings for top APIs and components
- Supports open source extensibility model - anyone can contribute mapping
A Silverlight app migrated to the Windows 10 UAP can operate across a wide variety of hardware platforms. To assist developers with the migration process, Mobilize.Net has released development documentation including mappings, and a wiki that contains additional subject material.
The new bridge, which has been endorsed by Microsoft, complements the company's own efforts to port apps for other development platforms, including Android apps, iOS apps, and those based on the company's own Win32 API to the UAP in Windows 10.
