LG unveils buttonless fingerprint reader

Fingerprint readers on smartphones revolutionized how we secured and accessed our devices. As time passed, the technology became more mainstream, and now we can be find it on the most basic of devices. Although we have seen more widespread use of the technology, the fingerprint reader has not changed for the most part, with manufacturers still embedding the technology into some kind of physical button. LG aims to change this and has unveiled a buttonless solution that embeds the fingerprint sensor directly into the glass of the device's screen.

LG has experimented and adhered the new sensor to the back of a display panel, utilizing a small space of only 0.3mm. By having the sensor on the inside of the glass, the buttonless fingerprint reader could change how future smartphones are designed. While it remains to be seen whether other companies with take advantage of LG's technology, we will undoubtedly see LG feature this in its own products sometime in the near future.
