Leaked benchmark claims to show Nvidia GTX 1070's true power

Earlier this month, Nvidia unveiled its new generation of graphics cards, based on the Pascal architecture. Dominated by the GeForce GTX 1080 flagship, the new generation promises to be a substantial upgrade over previous models. But how much of an upgrade? A leaker claims to have some very intriguing results for the GeForce 1070 GTX, the more affordable new-gen GPU.

According to benchmark results published by VideoCardz, the GeForce 1070 GPU is likely to be a hit with gamers. If these results are true then Nvidia’s graphics card outperforms the last-gen flagship, the Titan X. Not only that, but the GTX 1070 also runs cooler and quieter, and perhaps most importantly of all, will only cost around $380, if you’re going for the standard edition.

That being said it’s worth noting that the models tested here weren’t at all overclocked. In fact, according to the leaker, the GTX 1070 Founder’s Edition is power limited, so you won’t get the maximum power out of the silicon if you had OC dreams. Though memory overclocking shouldn’t be a problem.

Of course, these results are completely unofficial so you’d do well to take them with a big grain of salt. Plus, even if they are completely legitimate, artificial benchmarks can only get you so far. The real test for this new generation of cards will be to see how they handle games.

Luckily, we won’t have to wait much longer for that, because the GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 Founders’ Editions are expected to hit markets in the next couple of weeks.
