We wish all of our admin readers a Happy Sysadmin Day

It seems that every profession in the world gets a day where they're supposed to be recognized. Receptionists get a day. Bosses get a day. Even the human resources department gets a day. For tech folks, today is their time to celebrate: Sysadmin Day!

For most of the year, the people who manage the backend servers, databases, network, and storage get no love. They're up at 1am failing over datacenters in order to upgrade network firmware. They're being paged seven days a week because of attacks against the company webservers. They're constantly reading white papers to make sure they're designing a scalable, supportable infrastructure. Yet in most companies, the only time people say anything to these IT professionals is when something is broken.

Sysadmin Day, celebrated on the last Friday of July, aims to bring recognition to the backline support folks who keep your company's technology up and running, usually without any praise. So today, reach out to those people, say "thank you," and buy them lunch. Or cake.

Let us know in the comments if anyone has recognized you for the work that you do to support your organization.
