Quick question about minimal spec on games.

Recommended Posts

So with my PC frankenstien'ed (upgraded a little).. my friend and I was wondering if my PC can actually run Gears of War 4? It's the most graphic demanding game to come out this year.

My Specs

i5-750 @ 3.8GHZ OC

16GB  DDR3 ram

EVGA GTX 1070 FTW

I won't be sad or anything if it doesn't work (I know I need a CPU upgrade but I can't afford it). Right now the comp runs very smoothly, it can even run The Witcher on Ultra above 60FPS, same with Rise of the Tomb Raider (Ultra 60FPS+) and Forza Motorsport 6 Apex (Ultra 60FPS+). I just really want to know if that old of a CPU can still run since none of the released games have a i5-3470 as a minimum for the CPU. Not even GTAV has that for a minimum CPU spec.

with this grapix card, and this much ram, i assume you are fine, buddy!

So you guys are saying even with my CPU it will work?

Well if it's graphically intensive then yes you will be fine, the GPU will do all the work

But why that CPU though? I mean they could've chosen an i3 (GTAV's min spec is an i3 cpu) instead of the i5?

you worry too much. just because they listed a new CPU does not mean an older one cannot run it.

(if i am wrong, i will eat my tie....    just have to season it properly... LOL)

I'm just trying to figure it out. My CPU is a pretty damn old CPU trying to run 2016 games LOL. That's why I'm really interested in what it can really do. Afterall, it's a 7 year old CPU.

i understand. that tie, it is looking pretty delicious now....

however i still am willing to eat it,  because i really don't think that CPU is the bottleneck in modern games anymore.

Back in the Golden Age this was an amazing hotspot to ask such question... Now..  Its just the regulars. No new blood

Ignore the min spec, often games will run fine on machine well under it, and sometimes they struggle to run on machines that exceed the recommended spec. Not worth thinking about until it's out and people have played it and you know what kind of port you're dealing with.

Especially since yours is overclocked.  That will help offset anything there.  They can't test every CPU out there, and there is no reason for them to go back 7 years.  4-5 years is probably a reasonable time for them and they just don't bother with older.

I have similar specs to you there except my processor is older than yours, and yes everything runs just fine. My Oculus Rift software keeps telling me that my PC doesn't meet the minimum specs because of the processor requirement, but all the same I've nary seen a single dropped frame in most games I play, which are mostly at 1440p, close to maxed out settings and running at 144hz.

Just to clarify, you do know that the Oculus is not running at 1440p and 144hz right? That is the game window on your desktop and not actually what is running on the Oculus itself. They are two completely different things.
Add to this fact that most Oculus games are going to autodetect your current settings and change the resolution for the Oculus itself so you can actually play the games, and without knowing your exact setup but you yourself saying you do not meet the minimum specs, that means chances are the games on your Oculus are defaulting to the lowest possible settings to meet the minimum frame rate requirements.

That doesn't really help the topic in question if you've read through the posts.

Ok.
