for the lite theme...maybe you could disable sigs and avatars?
Also, for the main forum if there is a new post...maybe you could have the ">" in bold format. |

YOu can do that under My Controls. I considered removing them by default, but the option remains to the user....

The new reply forums are supposed to be bolded. Maybe I'll switch it to a more visible symbol

This isn't about the forum lite skin but rather the news page (front page) lite skin:
I was checking the file size of the standard/full news page (18.49 KB (18930 bytes) ) then checked the size of the lite news page ( 40.83 KB (41814 bytes) ). That's right--the 'lite' page's HTML is actually ~2x the download size of the standard page.  The problem apparently is that the standard/full page has gzip enabled but the lite page doesn't. So my suggestion is, enable gzip for the html/news-lite pages.
