Richard Grant
Okay so i bought a harddrive off ebay today and i connected the harddrive to my desktop Heres a picture of the harddrive: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8t1-yyBUVlFeDNFRHB2dS1EVHJNWlRsMUVxQUpxcTRTVG5z/view?usp=sharing There are 2 plugs on the far left of this image (which is is where my old harddrive was plugged in at) Over on the right there are 2 plugs that were not plugged in and i had the cables for So i plugged in the extra 2 Ran the computer for about 30 seconds & turned it off. I can smell a weird smoke-ish like smell coming from the hard drive area. Should i leave the extra 2 plugs unplugged?

fusi0n
You should have only plugged one of the power connectors.. I would have only used the SATA power connector, not the 4 pin molex.. Might have burned the PCB board under the hard drive.. Aergan 1 Share
Aergan
If you're lucky, you've just super heated any flux on the PCB. If not, you've likely damaged it beyond economical repair.

It was less than 30 seconds that it was connected like this
xendrome
If you hook it up with just 1 power connector and SATA does the BIOS detect it now? If yes, then ok if not, then the logic board is done.
conna
One power connector only. Use the SATA power connector if possible. Once the magic smoke is let out of electronic device, it is usually dead from then on.
