[pic]Weird display in Norway

the scientist people say it's most likely a rocket(probabbly military since that's otherwise it'd be a known launch) launched from northern russia that had a failure up in space. When the liquid rocket fuel spreads out as a cloud in space and the sun shines through it, you get this effect.

of course being a military launch the russian deny it, and the military said they'd investigate, but being military they're not going to say anymore :)

unrelated, dont you see that was back in 2006? besides , its really convincing that its a rocket going through different layers of the atmosphere... to me, anyway...

if its true about the fuel-cloud-in-space theory.... man, this must be one hell of a fireworks display

It's only one of few things as you can tell like been said the aura coming from around the object is the fact that it was or has been releasing or producing gas of some sort which is producing a lot of light as that blue effect is just the day sky being lit up meaning it's still within our atmosphere also note the trail coming from it is typical of boosters. With that being said it will be either a space rocket or high altitude missile/ICBM as been said that had malfunctioned.

when I say ICBM they're typically seen like this passing through stage 2 and 3 and also it would be a dummy rocket probably with no re-entry vehicles not trying to scare monger here. Same as US does off marshall islands and eniwetok etc

weather balloon

Rocket propelled weather balloon... that would be interesting would defeat purpose of drifting in the high altitude jet stream winds ? And also do spinning... I thought balloons only stayed upright... ;)

I found the cause: :p

On Tuesday evening, December 8th, 2009, the LHC achieved for the first time 2.36 TeV collisions and ATLAS recorded their first events at this record energy.

Yes that fits best, when you see the object turning around it really resembles most a missile losing control and then exploding. shouldn't a hydrogenperoxide ?propulsion explosion burn blue at dark?

if it was burning, it wouldnt be around long enough to leave a trail... the light is reflected from the sun, and the blue colour is probably just the colour of the smoke or something...

that said tho, wouldnt it be cool if they made these things show up on purpose?

It's hard to tell really rockets and missiles can be propelled by number of different fuels could be anything from hydrazine to hydrogen peroxide like you say or could be just solid-fuel which would most likely be the case I imagine which is same as space shuttle etc use which as we've seen on tv and things is incredibly bright when burning but since we usually only see shuttle launches during daylight you don't get to see the effect at night. Being that this looks to have a high altitude trajectory rather then low orbit it will have given the horizon crossing effect (what makes me think could have been an ICBM rocket test) as seen where it's come from the larger aura part could be the gas producing a similar effect to what auroras give off being so high on the horizon it would be picking up bits of sun light and yeah most likely either navigation malfunctioned or if it's got more then a single booster engine one could have failed and caused the spiral and burn out. At such a distance a high speed spiral of an object will appear to be a circle for the weather balloon/ufo/alien believers:pp
