New PS3 pad launched today; 'Close call' on day one stock

Sony UK has moved to reassure retailers that it will be providing ‘regular’ shipments of its new Dualshock 3 Wireless Controller this month – but admitted that it can’t guarantee stock for everyone on day one.

The firm announced the long-awaited launch of the controller this week, which finally brings the vibration function much-loved by PS2 users to PS3 in Europe.

As revealed by MCVUK.com this week (30/06), the peripheral launched in wider Europe earlier this week, but goes on sale for £39.99 in the UK tomorrow (July 4th).

Mark Howsen, PlayStation’s UK sales director, told MCV: "It's going to be a close call as to whether we can guarantee enough stock for everybody day one, however, we'll be making regular shipments thereafter, in order to satisfy demand."

Despite the ‘new breed’ of controller, Sony has put its faith in the continued sales potential of its Sixaxis PS3 pad – DualShock 3’s predecessor.

Howsen added: "We'll continue to offer the Sixaxis controller for the time being, giving consumers a cost effective buying choice, based on their gaming needs. Moving forwards, we'll monitor demand at retail."

President and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe David Reeves commented: "We are delighted to confirm that Dualshock 3 will be released in SCEE territories in early July. We hope this will add to the intense gaming experience for our fans, as we continue to evolve PS3, its software and its peripherals.”

My order with dvd.co.uk hasn't been processed nor is it listed on their website so it means they don't have stock yet.

I don't mind waiting a few days more since i'm getting it for £23 which is nearly half price of the £39.99 RRP (which is a joke price). Gameplay are doing them now for £32.99 but it wouldn't be here till next week so i am going to keep my order and wait it out.

Happy it's here, but the price is terrible. I'll pick one up later this year before the big titles hit thumbs_up.gif

The RRP is what I expected it to be, but if you pay that you must be mad!

All ill say on this matter is that, this is the reason we have ebay.

I just bought 2 DualShock 3 Controllers from Hong Kong, they work like a dream! and i saved £20.00 over buying them here in the U.K.
