Wireless Gaming Keyboard and Mouse

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm looking for suggestions for a good wireless keyboard and mouse that's suitable for gaming and on the couch as a media PC.  I'm also curious about mechanical keyboards - any thoughts?  That part's optional.

Historically I've gone Logitech; I have a G110 and G9x mouse at the moment.

Thanks.

I am using a Logitech L750 Solar as a keyboard and a Logitech G500s for a mouse. They work just fine for  the games I play. I have no need for macro keys that I can program. The mouse sits well in my hand and allows the usual sensitivity adjustments. There is also a button that removes the click of the mousewheel, so that it rotates freely and much faster.

As to the keyboard, I also use it from my couch, as I have my TV hooked up to my AV-Receiver and PC, so it shows up as a secondary display. I sit about 3m away and have no connectivity issues.

This combination works well for me, but it is nowhere near to what Logitech defines as gaming equipment. Then again, you just have to see what is good for you. If you require tons of macro keys and LCD displays and all that, the you'll probably be looking for a gaming keyboard like the Logitech G15 or G19.

I don't have any experience with other input devices, as for mice and keyboards I only buy Logitech.

+1 for the L750 solar keyboard, but as for it being a gaming keyboard i think you would wanting a mechanical keyboard. Wireless keyboard do not have the response time as a wired keyboard.

And depending on the type of game you play, you may not need that "required" response time - not everyone plays "twitch" games.

MMOs typically aren't "twitch" games, and I play several of them, and my keyboard and mouse are wireless (Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 6000 V.3 and Logitech V220 Cordless).  The Microsoft keyboard IS a mechanical keyboard - and wireless besides.  You likely mean WIRED (not necessarily mechanical) as Logitech also makes mechanical wireless keyboards.

Thanks for the tips.  The solar one doesn't look very comfortable for gaming use.

I'm currently looking at Logitech G710+ Mechanical Gaming Keyboard and Logitech G602 Wireless Gaming Mouse which seem to fit the bill.  The mouse is wireless which is great (though it has way more buttons on the side than I need) but the keyboard is wired.

Any thoughts on those?

Well, I only ever had one wireless mouse and it was horrible. The mouse pointer just stuttered across the screen. Probably there was something wrong or too much interference from something. So I can't say I have much experience in that field.

As to mechanical keyboards or response time, I never understood what that was about. I think my K750 is very comfortable. I have it up on the small legs at the back (support legs, not sure what the proper word is) so it is slightly raised. When I type something in or press a button the reaction is immediate on the screen. I never noticed nor felt that there was a delay in anything I do on the computer.

I have the Logitech G602 mouse and I love it.  It has amazing battery life.  I used to have the G700 and that thing was absolutely horrible with battery life.

For keyboard, I have the Logitech K800.  The keys are backlit, it gets great battery life, and it's slim and quiet. I never understood the hype over mechanical keyboards.

imho wireless and gaming just don't go together. Imagine catching a radio interference at the crux of a battle and then dying or losing to your opponent. No thanks.

And then you have a whole issue of worrying about the battery life and performing extra unnecessary steps: charging the mouse, buying batteries, replacing them, etc. Life's full of problems already  :D

Logitech G700 mouse is unbelievable.. Quite good quality. I still am using my Logitech G15 keyboard. Some of the keys are too soft these days.. getting a bit worn but it's been many years..

This. I would not touch the g700 with a ten foot pole. The battery life is extremely bad. And the only way to charge it is to plug it in the PC making it a wired mouse (and the cable is kinda stiff). You can replace the battery instead but replacing the battery once a day becomes annoying quickly.

The g602 looks really nice.

Good wireless mouses don't catch more interference than wireless controllers. My old g7 was better than 99% of the wired mouses out there. Never got any interference with it and the latency was far far far far far far far lower than the latency you get between you and the server.

I do get interference with my Mamba 2012 tough so i would not recommend this mouse even if the shape is awesome. Battery is not a problem with the mamba 2012. You get around 12 hours of battery which is more than enough for a day and you just have the put the mouse on the charger at the end of the day (unlike the g700 where you need to plug it or change the battery).

My next mouse will surely be the g602.

Still wish Logitech made the g7 with extra buttons. Best mouse ever period.

you don't have to use the stiff micro usb cable to charge the g700, any microusb cable will do

I'm not aware of any Gaming and/or Mechanical keyboards that are wireless.

Yeah there's no real point to wireless gaming kb. But honestly any backlighted wireless kb will do the job. But the battery life will probably be bad with the backlight. Gaming kb are overrated anyway imo.

It's better to have a separate small wireless kb for media pc purpose and another one with a wire for gaming.

Gaming keyboards - no.  Wireless keyboards - several. are known.  All Microsoft wireless keyboards in the 5000 and above series are mechanical (despite being wireless), as are all of Logitech's wireless keyboards for Windows, including the hypercheap K360 and K400.  Why do folks insist on believing that wireless keyboards can't also be mechanical (rather hilarious, considering that my Wireless Keyboard 6000 V.3 is almost a decade old - and it's not even the oldest of Microsoft's wireless mechanical keyboards)?

Mechanical keyboards - whether wired OR wireless - are mostly sturdier in construction than non-mechanical keyboards.  Where wireless keyboards - mechanical or otherwise - have issues are in terms of two issues - interference (a problem with multiple wireless devices in general) and wireless lag (same thing).

I purchased the G602 and I love it!  Wireless technology has come a long way I feel - haven't noticed any lag (but I'm also not a competitive gamer).  I'd highly recommend it to people.

I've held back on the keyboard.  I had a chance to test out the G710+ at a Frys store and I didn't like the feel of it.  The keys, despite being mechanical, just didn't have quite the right amount of resistance.  I've heard good things about the Das Keyboard brand.  That and Steel Series.

I have had the G602 for awhile, can not be beat. It's an amazing gaming mouse, that has a long battery life.

Though I have found there is no keyboard option. I use a Logitech K750 solar keyboard, but would love a mechanical one :(

Logitech has other mechanical wireless keyboards - just not a mechanical and solar-powered one.  (Doubtless due to power requirements - mechanical switches DO use more power than membrane switches.)

In addition to the K350 (ergonomic and wireless, but not solar, and same price as the K750), there are the pricier K800 (wireless and illuminated) and the TK820 (drops the lit keys, but adds as integrated touchpad)

I realize this topic is a bit old but I've been looking into getting a mechanical keyboard in the last few days and the two I've narrowed it down to are the logic G710+ and the Corsair K70.

Both of these keyboards can be purchased for less than $130 on amazon and both have a similar feature set, except for the logic board has macro keys which I will never use. They're both good looking boards, too. The difference is in the keys where the G710+ has cherry browns and the K70 has cherry reds.

A point of interest is that the K70 will soon be released in an RGB version which looks absolutely amazing but is a little over the top...

I assume when they are out to retail they will be $200+ dollars, though.

I just saw this thread today -  I am confused about PGHammer's comments.

I wasnt aware MS had any mechanical KB - also, I wasnt aware of any wireless mechanical KB out there.

What is he referring to when he says "mechanical"  ?

Also saying KB from Logitech are mech & wireless ?  Can someone clue me in on this ?   Im confused because nobody jumped up and said he was wrong.

I was confused by his post too. There is no such thing as a wireless mechanical keyboard. Not all gaming keyboards are mechanical. Most of the low end ones aren't.

I'm 100% sure of this. I did a lot of research on mechanical keyboards in the last week because I was looking to buy one (and did, today..or yesterday rather).

While this post is a bit older I will say you clearly failed in your research. There are mechanical wireless keyboards and I have had this one for some time now.

It is Bluetooth 3.0, but there really is no lag with it. At least once I used a usb extention cable for my bluetooth adapter. Bluetooth 3.0 and 4.0 are pretty solid 2.4ghz RF, but suffer from a sort of line of sight connection. Once I got the dongle in front of my television I can kick up my foot rest or extend out on the couch and play with zero issues. I have played games like Brink, CS:GO, Sniper Elite V2, SE Nazi Zombie, Awesomenauts, L4D2, TMNT:Out of the Shadows, a few racing games, and various other things with no issues. Only problem is when someone walks in front of the television to block my view. :P
