+Heartripper Subscriber¹ Posted April 15, 2014 Subscriber¹ Share Posted April 15, 2014 My girlfriend's iPhone automatically sends texts to her mother through iMessage even tough she doesn't have an apple device, so they aren't delivered. She has to turn off internet connection, wait for the delivery to fail and re send the text via SMS. I've tried deleting and recreating the contact but this didn't help. What can I do to,fix this? Hum
here's some answer from Apple discussion: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3445772?start=0&tstart=0 The answer is simple as soon as you press send the ballon with the txt you are sending appears in the main window quickly touch and hold this ballon and you will get the option to send as txt
+Heartripper Subscriber¹ Posted April 15, 2014 Author Subscriber¹ Share Posted April 15, 2014 Yes but she would need to do this every time she texts her mother. Also the message isn't received if sent through message.
Brian M. Veteran Posted April 15, 2014 Veteran Share Posted April 15, 2014 Are you sure her mother hasn't had her sim in an Apple device at all? If the number is assigned to an Apple ID, any device - iPad, Mac or iPhone with that Apple ID will get the message. For it to go blue, a device somewhere is assigned to that number. Another possibility - if it's a new contract, maybe someone had the number before her and still has it in their Apple ID? Either way, it's probably best to contact Apple at http://expresslane.apple.com to see what they can do.
+Heartripper Subscriber¹ Posted April 15, 2014 Author Subscriber¹ Share Posted April 15, 2014 I don't know if the sim was ever inserted in an apple device, I will ask her but she's one of our beloved average Joe user so I don't know if I should trust her answer. Isn't there a way to unkink a number from an apple I'd other than contacting apple?
Brian M. Veteran Posted April 15, 2014 Veteran Share Posted April 15, 2014 If you know the Apple ID it's assigned to, you can reset the password - but that doesn't look like the case here. There's no way to just "remove this number from everything". http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5538
Shadrack
It might take up to a month for Apple to unlist the number. It does sound like somehow the number got listed... One solution might be to install the SIM into an iPhone, turn on iMessages, wait for the system to register everything, go and turn off iMessages, and then wait for Apple to unlist the number. For me that has been a matter of a few hours before, but people have complained that it has taken over a month to complete.
+Heartripper Subscriber¹ Posted April 16, 2014 Author Subscriber¹ Share Posted April 16, 2014 She is sure that the sim has never been in an Apple device. And in fact her father's iphone sends normal text (green bubble) to her mother, so the issue appears to be with the device :/
Randolph
You have to go into iMessage settings on the iPhone and make sure "Send as SMS" is turned on. I was having this same exact issue. It's a huge design flaw to have it turned off on iOS7 by default wtf.

HawkMan
Bad solution; that would disable it for every contact. As it should be, the imessage system is the worst idea ever.
+John Teacake MVC Posted April 16, 2014 MVC Share Posted April 16, 2014 Its most likely she might have it installed on a Mac or previously had an iPhone.
+Heartripper Subscriber¹ Posted April 16, 2014 Author Subscriber¹ Share Posted April 16, 2014 No, they don't have a mac and she assured me the SIM was never put in an iPhone. Also her father's iPhone sends SMS to her mother by default, so the problems is in her iPhone.
SuperKid
It won't be that the number was previously associated with another iPhone or linked to a Mac. A phone number is automatically removed from iMessage if it is no longer linked after 24 hours. The solution to this problem is to go into contacts and change the number in the iPhone from "iPhone" to "Mobile".
