Impressive.

I'll get one as soon as it's got some games on it that I'm interested in, that aren't also available for the PC (because if it's available on that, that's where I'm getting them).

What if I told you I pre-ordered the ps4 in June last year and I still haven't owned a single game for it....

I'd wonder why you took the plunge on such an expensive gadget seemingly without researching what games were coming out when.

What is this 2007? "Has no games"? Between the PS4, X1, and PC, i can't even decide what to play when i sit down with some free time. There's tons of stuff on PS4, and more coming. Just in May we have Watch Dogs (getting that on X1 though), The Show, Wolfenstein, and Transistor. And Child of Light by the end of this month. If none of that interests you nor ANY of the games that came out since Nov, then you are clearly not into gaming, so why did you spend so much money on a gaming device?

I'm just curious why you would buy a multiplatform game for the X1 if you also own the PS4?

Watchdogs on PS4 is going to run at 1080p while on the Xbox it will most likely be sub-1080p, going off every other multiplatform game released on both consoles and also from the developers themselves saying it will run at 1080p on PS4 and not confirming the resolution for the X1.

-Back on topic, impressive numbers for the PS4. Selling 7 million in the time it took for the Wii to sell almost 6 million which was the biggest seller last-gen console.

Also the X1 hasn't sold much more than the Wii U at 4 months and the Wii U is the current flop of current-gen consoles.

Thanks for noticing and for asking. Well aware of the graphics issue, if that was the main consideration probably the PC would be the logical platform to get the game on. Personally i really enjoy this time, having so much choice, and would like to support all as much as i can afford. Plenty of games to get on PS4 in May, and for myself i enjoy the X1 very much. Not sure why she's become the whipping boy of this generation. Anyway, decided to get Watch Dogs on X1. Feels right!

And while i do believe PS4 is selling more, i know for a fact X1 sales are understated and many go unreported - especially in non supported regions.

But however you look at it, seven million devices in six months is quite a feat!

Fair play to them the PS4 is a beast and represents great value.

In the intrests of fairness I owned a Xbox 1 for a weekend before it annoyed me so much it got returned to Amazon.  I am disappointed my brief ownerhsip contributes +1 to their sales figures for that unfinished heap of.. :(

PS4 - 4 months, 23 days - April 6th, 2014 - 7.0 million. (Not 6 months)

Feels right? I don't really get it, It sounds like your limiting yourself to support the X1 over the PS4 by buying a slightly inferior gaming experience due to graphics.

If I owned both I would buy all multiplatform games on the PS4 except the motion/kinect type games which the X1 does better. X1 would be kinect type games & Xbox exclusives, PS4 would be multiplatform games and Sony exclusives.

How am i limiting myself if it's by choice? Just something i prefer. Actually the more people bash it, the more i want to support X1. Just decided to get Child of Light on it as well.

And to be honest man i find your highlighting of 4 months and 23 days a little...disconcerting. You're not about to start counting the minutes, are you?

I totally get that the PS4 has an edge in visuals. It's apparent right from the UI, as i said before. But it's not a big deal to me. The big deal to me is gaming, a hobby that has literally kept me alive on more occasions than i care to note. There's no room for hating or even looking down at this device or that platform when your mindset is like that. If i had enough money i'd go out and get a Wii U right now. Probably an Ouya, too (likely wouldn't choose the Ouya version of Watch Dogs even if one existed, not that utopian/crazy :D )

EDIT: for the record i support Sony equally - how many bought Pure Chess on launch day? Come on!

I only bought it last friday thinking 'it can't be THAT bad' and it was promptly shipped back to Amazon two days ago.

Granted the recently announced update fixes some of my gripes but they have a long, long way to go...  which is a shame because last gen I was pretty much all-in with the 360 and there was a brief joy logging back into my old XBL account with my old achievements and gamerscore.  Short lived though.

Sometimes its hard for people to accept the choices of others. On the surface, its quite illogical, but the point is you have your own reasons.

Ah ok, so its a recent piece of crap for you. Got it. Maybe it will improve enough to warrant another look down the line.

I hope so, with the frequency of their updates and the fact they are listening to player gripes, I have no doubt they will refine and fine tune things in due course.  Perhaps they will come out with a 'NXE' equivalent this gen. I'm certianly open to giving it another shot somewhere down the line but unfortunately in its current state it irritated me to the point I just knew it would sit there collecting dust compared to the PS4 sat next to it, so it was going to be an expensive paperweight until some must have exclusives come along.

At least now I can feel I am justified when I have a bit of a moan about the X1 having actually owned the thing myself :)  That's not to say it doesn't do anything right, it has a fair bit going for it, but for me personally there is way more it is doing wrong at this point in time.

It just seems illogical to me to buy a game which is inferior to its other console equivalent. Its the same game, same game play and everything except it will have slightly better graphics on the PS4 so I see it as limiting yourself because you specifically choose to get the slightly inferior version of the game when you own both console systems. If you said you prefer the controller on the X1 or have more friends on the X1 for the multiplayer or something like that it wouldn't have been an issue but your excuse is 'just because' basically.

Sure visual aren't a big thing for you but gameplay is, but if its the same game with same gameplay why not buy the one that has slightly better visuals?

I don't support Sony, pretty much the only Sony product I own is a PS4. I don't care about the brands or companies that make a product I just go for whatever I think is better.

I also own Apple iPhone 5 as my mobile and don't have any brand loyalty to Apple, I just like its design, features and ease of use. But when a Windows or Android phone comes out and I think its better I would switch over instantly.

My point being is people seem to have too much brand loyalty, don't buy a product because of brand loyalty and you want to support the company, buy a product because its better then the other products.

Congratulations, you just named a bunch of games you can get elsewhere and thus aren't a reason to buy a new console. I have to question why you bought those consoles so soon when right now almost everything coming out for them that might be worthwhile is also on your pc.

Let the man have his choice. Geez, you guys really take this stuff too far. You have to grill people for the reasons they buy a product.

Beyond trying to pick on one user, I would say that there are many people that will favor a brand based on past experiences and therefor are more likely to adopt their stuff. Its not wrong to favor a brand and its not the same thing as a 'fanboy' . If you like the work a company is or has been doing, that is ok. So if you prefer one console or another because you like what they are doing, you might also buy a game on that console for the same reason, unless there is a glaring reason not to. For some visual differences are very glaring, and for others its not.

Thanks for the understanding troop and spense :D

But really, i don't mind GotBored and Blackhearted asking those questions, it's fine as part of a discussion.

In many cases you would be right. Graphics are likely the most important thing in games, even if it's not always the cool thing to say. We do call them "video" games for a reason! So sure, i understand 1920 x 1080 is superior to 1760 x 900, and PS4 may even have better effects, not just more pixels. For Watch Dogs, that game seems to be a visual travesty of my hometown heh heh, so i don't really need the prettier wrong version of the Mag Mile ("Mad Mile") or Wrigley ("May Stadium"). I want to support Ubi and want to enjoy the game, but i don't need the most visually stunning version of it.

Did the same thing with 360/PS3/PC, or whenever i had multiple devices. Always mixed and matched, sometimes with no special reason. Occasionally you get a game where it's an obvious choice, like LA Noire was two discs on 360 but just one on PS3 so i picked the latter for convenience. I don't have a super practical approach to gaming, it's something i'm quite sentimental about as mentioned before. MS and Sony aren't just cold brands to me, for my own reasons they are part of my being, so i want to support them. I'd love to support more, but can't afford it.

Congratulations, you just named a bunch of games you can get elsewhere and thus aren't a reason to buy a new console. I have to question why you bought those consoles so soon when right now almost everything coming out for them that might be worthwhile is also on your pc.

True, most games are on PC and am getting lots of stuff on PC, but wanted to have PS4 and X1 so why not? It's important to me and i'm having a great time. I feel good just having them. Surely as a gamer you can understand that. It's not all logic. I also pay for my Mars Society and Planetary Society memeberships though i will never go to space, but i want to support the causes. We are human after all, not calculators, not all the time at least.

EDIT: i don't understand what's wrong with brand loyalty? Why is it OK to be loyal to a sports team, a country, a cause, a religion, but not to a brand? As long as you don't go around hurting other people because of it, it's great. Loyalty is what separates us from other animals, we keep at certain things because we choose to, because we care. GotBored, you should be proud that you enjoy iPhone, it's quite sad to hear that it's just a practical choice for you. Don't want to analyze you, but more passion is fine. Guess it's a personality thing. I always give cars names and talk to them. They are never just transportation to me. Actually i don't think any object is "just an object" in my life.

Let's steer the conversation back to the sales please and drop the brand loyalty/performance talk (Y).

Some sales are contributed to brand loyalty, other sales to system performance so talking about brand loyalty/performance is on topic for sales.
