Microsoft UK: Xbox One sales have "really improved"

Sony's PlayStation 4 has been outselling the Xbox One by some margin since the two consoles launched at the end of last year. But Microsoft is working to reverse that trend, despite estimates suggesting that around two million more PS4s have been sold compared with Xbox Ones. Clearly, there is much work for Microsoft to do to narrow that gap.

But it seems that Microsoft may finally be seeing its efforts beginning to pay off. During a talk attended by TrustedReviews, Xbox UK Marketing Director Harvey Eagle said: "Our momentum has really improved in the past weeks and months and we're obviously really happy about that. And by momentum, I mean sales."

At least part of that may be attributable to Microsoft's decision to begin selling a version of the Xbox One without the costly Kinect, which has reduced the console's price to far more attractive levels.

Given that it's only been a few weeks since the Kinect-free version went on sale, it's unlikely that this has completely narrowed the sales gap between the Xbox One and PS4, but any increase in momentum will be a welcome relief to Microsoft. The exact increase in sales remains unclear, since Eagle did not disclose 'before and after' sales figures to compare.

Microsoft says that it hasn't given up on Kinect and still believes that it offers a premium experience for Xbox One users.
