America's Army - http://www.americasarmy.com/

Q: What is the America's Army game?

A: ?an accurate portrayal of Soldier experiences ?

The America's Army game provides civilians with an inside perspective and a virtual role in today's premier land force: the U.S. Army. The game is designed to provide an accurate portrayal of Soldier experiences across a number of occupations. In the game, players will explore progressive individual and collective training events within the game. Once they successfully completed these events they will advance to multiplayer operations in small units.

Cube is an open source multiplayer and singleplayer first person shooter game built on an entirely new and very unconventional engine. Cube is a landscape-style engine that pretends to be an indoor FPS engine, which combines very high precision dynamic occlusion culling with a form of geometric mipmapping on the whole world for dynamic LOD for configurable fps & graphic detail on most machines. Uses OpenGL & SDL.

Flight Gear - http://flightgear.org/

an open source fligh simulator on par with ms flight simulator 98.

Originally slated to be an expansion to the popular Return to Castle Wolfenstein game, Splash Damage, after nearly completing the game, decided to make a standalone game because of the difference in playing styles, objectives, and classes that the game brought. ET has a strong community in the competitive world as well, with well over 200 active clans.

Multiplayer (and only mp, there's no singleplayer mode) RTS with tanks and stuff, using 3D OpenGL graphics.

The Battle for Wesnoth - http://www.wesnoth.org

A very fun, high quality and very polished, original strategy game. Destroy the enemy's leader to win while taking advantage of unit types and weaknesses, time of day, and the type of terrain. Capture villages to gain more gold and recruit more units, which gain experience (and have multiple upgrades) as they fight. Includes a Battle.net like multiplayer matchmaking service that allows you to host behind firewalls.

Since their world was invaded by an alien race, the Blobs have faced a lifetime of war. But now they have a chance to win the war once and for all.

In Blob Wars : Metal Blob Solid, you take on the role of a fearless Blob agent, Bob. Bob's mission is to infiltrate the various enemy bases around the Blobs' homeworld and rescue as many MIAs as possible. But standing in his way are many vicious aliens, other Blobs who have been assimilated and the evil alien leader, Galdov.

UFO: Alien Invasion  - http://ufo.myexp.de/

UFO: ALIEN INVASION is a strategy game featuring tactical combat against hostile alien forces which are about to infiltrate earth at this very moment. You are in command of a small special unit which has been founded to face the alien strike force. To be successful on the long run, you will also have to have a research team study the aliens and their technologies in order to learn as much as possible about their technology, their goals and the aliens themselves.

'UFO: Alien Invasion' is heavily inspired by the 'X-COM' series by Mythos and Microprose. The first game of the series, 'UFO DEFENSE', became a classic and, in our honest opinion, is one of the best games ever made.

'UFO: Alien Invasion' is neither a sequel nor a remake of 'UFO DEFENSE' - we simply had the urge to create a similar strategy game, which will hopefully be as entertaining as the original was for the players (and for the developers, of course  ).

Glest is a project for making a free 3d real-time customizable strategy game.

Current version is fully playable, includes single player game against CPU controlled players, two factions with their corresponding tech trees, units, buildings and some maps.

The Ur-Quan Masters - http://sc2.sourceforge.net/

A remake of Star Control 2, a great oldie. One of the best!

With this you can play a LOT (and I mean A LOT, as in the opposite of a few) of the old dos games. It is one of the must haves for my system, as I am heavily into classic and nostalgia games. I'll take this over WINE any day. This allows me to dig out my cherished games such as the Settlers, Heroes of Might and Magic, XCOM, Pizza Tycoon, Populous, Sim Ant, Command and Conquer.. etc et.. I could fill up the page . They just don't make 'em like they used to.

Rocks'n'Diamonds! - http://www.artsoft.org

A nice puzzle game that includes Sokoban and Supaplex. Probably one of the first Linux games I used after BZFlag and ClanBomber!

Warzone 2100. It's GPL now, Open-Sourced, free, and still being developed. It's got native ports for 'Nix, Windows, and Mac too. ^_^ Oldie but goodie in my book.

Lots of new stuff in the works for it, most of which is in beta testing.

Don't forget Warsow and Neverball. The first is like Quake 3 Arena, but based on Quake 2 source, iirc. The second is a highly addictive (at least, in my opinion) game where you roll a ball through obstacle courses. Some of the levels are insane towards the end.

I never finished the series, but Penumbra (a horror/puzzle sort of game) was pretty good from what I remember.
