0 Hum
XP Mode is for Windows 7 Pro, Ultimate and Enterprise only, it is no way legal to run on Windows 8. Why should it be 'illegal' ? What about a virtual box ... http://lifehacker.com/5965889/how-to-run-windows-xp-for-free-in-windows-8 When you upgrade your system from Windows XP to Windows 8 and was told that some programs are not compatible, just uninstall those programs first. After the upgrade, re-install those programs. Now run "Compatibility Trouble Shooter" on those programs one at a time. The "Trouble Shooter" will recommend a suitable "Mode" for each program or you can pick the "Mode" you want. There are 3 choices - "Windows 7 Mode", "Windows Vista Mode" and "Widows XP Mode" Once set, those program when opened will run in the mode you picked. http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-performance/can-i-run-xp-under-windows-8/5af7cc6d-cb07-4137-a7c9-f3d9ccd4b5d8 x-scratch 1 Share
0 Torolol
you probably gonna need that 'xp mode' for older games/program that doesn't works properly on win 8.x
0 PGHammer
you probably gonna need that 'xp mode' for older games/program that doesn't works properly on win 8.x Any desktop virtualization software will work - including Hyper-V; all, however, have their caveats. VMware Player and Workstation - both are built from the same core (that of VMware Workstation); starting with vmPlayer 5, you can create your own virtual machines. VMware Player is free; Workstation is commercial software (trialware option is available). Oracle VirtualBox - utterly free. Only option for OS/2 and derivatives thereof for virtual machines. Gotcha - performance is poor compared to either VMware or Hyper-V. Hyper-V - available as a no-cost option for Windows 8 Pro and above or Windows Server 2003 and later. Better performance than VirtualBox; slightly worse than VMware. Gotchas - requires Extended Processor Table support in the CPU (mitigating factor - this is standard in most AMD and Intel CPUs of the Sandy Bridge era and later) for desktop versions of Windows from 8 to now - sound in virtual machines requires third-party software. goretsky 1 Share

0 Raa
Why should it be 'illegal' ? Strictly speaking "XP Mode" is a special image built for Windows Virtual PC which is intended to only run on Windows 7. While it may be possible to run this image in Windows 8+'s Hyper-V (or other virtual machine) environment, doing so would be in breach of the EULA for XP Mode. (Nor would it function as a "true XP Mode" the way it does in Windows 7) To do this without breaching an EULA, you would need to install your own legal copy of XP from scratch inside a new virtual environment of your choice. Of course this doesn't give all the same benefits of "true XP Mode", but legally speaking, there's no alternative. Praetor 1 Share
0 techbeck
XP Mode, MS included the licenses for Windows XP. So if you use VMWARE and create your own XP VM, you will need to have your own licensed copy of XP.
0 Praetor
plenty of good answers in here so the resume is: XP mode is only for Windows 7 (limited versions apply); using XP mode in anyway in other OS than Windows 7 is a breach of the EULA, as in illegal. 0 Steven P. Administrators Posted October 22, 2014 Administrators Share Posted October 22, 2014 Ermm think this has to do with running programs in compatibility mode? Some programs can be executed like they are Windows 95 apps, and others can't. This also applies to installing a program (right click > properties > compatibility) If Windows XP isn't shown then the program simply doesn't support it :) One program can only go back as far as Vista, while the other can go back as far as Windows 95 compatibility. Compatibility doesnt always work even if the supported OS is listed. There are ways to get the XP Mode files working on Windows 8. Just have to do a quick search. Someone mentioned it violates the EULA, so I wont post the details here.
0 Anibal P
Am I the only one that sees no point in this? Get some up to date software or run your game in a VM, but it would be better to just use a current game or app instead
