The Oatmeal: Why haven't you had kids yet?

Recommended Posts

Having recently had a kid, this doesn't change. People automatically assume you're interested in their kids, or that you must like kids because you had one. FALSE, i still hate other peoples kids.

What's worse is the "Oh you must have kids, it's amazing" changes in to "You're parenting wrong, my kids blah blah months older than yours so i must be at the optimum parenting level" crap.

Lol. That seems true. Don't have kids myself, and doubt I ever will.

"Go and have some kids so I can tell you how you're raising them incorrectly".

I'm 28, and still don't have kids, and doubt I ever will. Stinks being single at the moment, as this is the age where most women will give you stink about their biological clocks, blah, blah, blah... :/

Usually the ones pushing other women into having babies are THE WORST when it comes to parenting, that's why you should always ignore them

Me, mine are all grown now, the youngest is a HS senior, never felt the need to push kids on others or give unneeded parental advice, unless directly asked

My kids are great, everybody else's can go do one!

I like other peoples kids, you can give them back at the end of the day!!

As much as i love kids I don't think i could ever cope for more than a few hours with them.

late 20s is no longer the age in which women talk about their biological clock... try late 30s.

in my experience, a lot my friends have kids now. they give me the guilt trip about not having kids.... just like the comic, as if my life isnt complete. i had this guy one time, a new parent, ask "so, hey, whats going on?" i just looked at him, and before i could say anything he says "lemme guess...nothing, right?" you know, b/c since we dont have kids then our life is less than fulfilling. what a knob.

Great, so I guess it's something to continue looking forward to. :P

I've had the same happen to me. A lot of my friends are starting to pair off, and have kids now, and of course all I hear is how wonderful it is to have them... But at the same time, I constantly see Facebook posts about being up all sorts of hours during the night, the irritability the child displays, but the most common thing I see is guys and gals commenting on how much they miss going out. No thanks. I'm someone who doesn't like sitting still very long. I need to be up exploring. That's what I want to do most in my life.

I have a son, and I feel weird around other people with kids.  Like, they always seem to take an interest in my son, and like when he was a baby they would all comment on how cute he is, or how much he looks like me.  If my son or his sisters goes and plays with other kids near their parents they are like all intent on watching, and they laugh and smile.   I couldn't care less about someone else's kid.  If there are a bunch of kids playing around me.. I don't engage them, I wonder why they had to come over here.  I dunno, I smile and laugh with my kids.. but I have no want to do it to someone elses kid.

I think the world of my kid and would do anything for her, but this stops at her!
