+Warwagon MVC Posted August 26, 2014 MVC Share Posted August 26, 2014 is a used iPhone 4 really worth $150? I'm seeing people all over our local swap page selling an iPhone 4 for $150. That phone can't even get iOS 8 (Though i'm sure most people don't know that) Even if I paid a lot for it out of the gate I don't think I could sell a phone for that much. I'd feel like I was raping them. Not sure how much I would ever sell my iPad 2 for. Hell if someone was selling an IPad 2 on swap they would probably sell it for $250 I just saw a guy who repairs phones selling a 3GS for $95. Man I really feel bad, I took my friend to the cleaners when I bought his old iPhone 4s for $80  About a year ago I saw a guy selling his iPod Touch second Gen for $150 and someone bought it    Jose_49 1 Share
TAZMINATOR
No it's not worth that much to that title question. And there are many dumb people everywhere that they buy overpriced items without researching to make sure. Jose_49 1 Share

When my dad retired and got him self a Verizon Prepaid account, I thought he might like a iPhone 4s, but I sure as ###### wasn't going to pay $150 ... hell for $76 I could get him a Moto G (That my mom has)

sc302 Veteran Posted August 26, 2014 Veteran Share Posted August 26, 2014 here is the deal, to get a phone out of contract, how much does it cost? 700 was the price I paid for my s4 so that I could retain my plan. 150 doesn't seem so bad in comparison, but it doesn't compare to a phone that you can buy in plan that costs pennies on the dollar. So is it worth 150, sure it is. Is it worth 150 in a with a plan, no it is not.

You just have to learn to love last years model. :) When the S4 was out ... or maybe that wasn't even out yet, I snagged an S3 for $288 on eBay... still the phone i'm using. Now I think you can snag the S4 for $250. Jose_49 1 Share
LittleNeutrino Veteran Posted August 26, 2014 Veteran Share Posted August 26, 2014 personally I do not think they are worth that much however, as long as Gamestop will let me trade in an iPhone 4s for $140 I will continue to get them for free from friends and sell them to gamestop lol. DeltaXray
Value is subjective. Value is whatever people are willing to pay for it. If you were to just out and say 'I want $150' then maybe not, but if they are consistently going for that as the market rate, then yes they are. Remember that Apple products generally keep good value for years, given that the build quality is great and usually get updates for a long time. Granted it can't get iOS 8 but I believe it has 7? So its OS isn't that old. I recently sold a iPhone 4 on eBay for ?140 which had a completely smashed back glass. Put it on for 0.99 no reserve and that's where it finished. That's the dumbest thing i've ever heard... that's 232.15 US Dollar for an iPhone 4 with a smashed back. Draconian Guppy 1 Share

HawkMan
Is it worth 150... if you asked me personally I would say no. BUT the market pays 150 for it, so it's worth 150. compare to a 150 dollar android phone(off contract) and see what you get and yes the hardware is worth 150 as well. Shadrack
I don't think it is worth it. Low end Nokia smartphones will give you a far better experience. I might go for a "last-gen" refurb iPhone if I was looking to get one on the cheap. In my opinion, the iPhone is really overpriced. I've had 3 of them now, and the last one I paid full price for. I'm a total prepay fanboy, so subsidized pricing doesn't apply to me anymore. I'm going to hold onto my iPhone 5 for hopefully another year. But I think I'll probably go for a $200 - $350 (unsubsidized/unlocked) Windows Phone on my next phone upgrade. Maybe Android, but I'm more interested in Windows Phone right now. I guess there are phone shops who will replace the back for only a few ?s, but it is still a ridiculous amount for a phone. I was surprised when I saw what it ended at and even more surprised when they paid up :S Still if they want to pay it who am I to argue. I guess as tech goes Apple products are an 'investment' in that you can be sure of a pretty decent return even years down the road.
zalberg
My friend sold his (obviously jailbroken) appleTV 2 for $250 just a few weeks ago. Thats $150 more than it retailed for, and it only does 720p! Amazon FireTV is rootable and significantly faster and was being sold brand new for $84. He pocketed like $160 and got a FireTV and couldn't be happier. Its amazing the stigma that Apple products carry. T3X4S
Just sold my 5 for $325, BB offered $220 The only one who can tell you if its worth it, is you - "worth" is relative.
Praetor
worth? well, depends on the market; i few days ago a friend tryed to sell me an used iPhone 5S for 250?, off contract... so it really depends on the market: how much people are willing to pay for something that: a) they know it's very popular. b) they know it's expensive (at least when new). c) the "wanting" factor. Also other Apple hardware that sells pretty well is the laptops (Macbook Pro and Air): people are willing to buy a used, last gen laptop for an outrageous prices!
