HP has announced that it is recalling millions of power cords around the world, after numerous reports from customers that the cords were overheating, resulting in melting or charring.
The recall affects around six million of its LS-15 AC power cords, which shipped with HP and Compaq notebook and netbook systems - and with accessories, such as docking stations - between September 2010 and June 2012.
The company said that the power cords "may pose a risk of a fire and burn hazard to customers." As Reuters reports, HP has in fact received 29 reports of the cords overheating, with 13 claims of 'minor property damage' and two instances in which customers received 'minor burns'.
HP said in a statement that "customers should immediately stop using and unplug the recalled power cords and contact Hewlett-Packard to order a free replacement." Affected customers can register for a replacement here.
