In my class, there is one who has a Windows Phone

But it has version 7, the one with two columns on the side. She isnt rally a tech follower, but is aware of WP, Android and "iPhone"(referring to the OS)

I asked her.(rough English translation of actual convo.)

Let's call her L.

Me: Do you like Windows Phone?

L: Nope, I like their Android phones better.

Me: Why?

L: They can have more apps.

After that, I just said "Ah ok" and continued with normal conversation on who is the hottest guy in the year level and all...

(Since I go to a public school, I didnt ask why she bought it in the first place)

So I think that this is solid proof that the only thing people do not like about WP is the lack of apps. As an Android user, I think the consistent UI and updates is already a nice plus. The only thing keeping me away from joining in is the apps.

I think what MS should do is get Cyanogen to develop a framework that lets Android apps run in WP. or maybe work together to create an actual WP ROM for older, abandoned phones.

I was also confused by that.   Hopefully with Android's Material design things will improve a bit. And that Google cracks down on the Play Store for scam apps.

I've been an Android user since Donut. I love Android and think it's a great OS.

2 weeks ago I went out and bought a Lumia 930.

Why the change?  Simple.  Boredom.  I decided that after so many years of using the same OS and dealing with butthead OEM's that drop support after a year and don't give a damn about their users, that I'd try something else.

You know what?  I'm quite liking it.  The experience isn't perfect, there are a few issues I don't really like all that much, but overall, it's just fine for me.  All the apps I used, I've found alternatives for, and whilst yes there are fewer apps, that really doesn't bother me.  After all, the Android store might have more apps, but it's also full of complete garbage.

I don't think that's actually right. Android/Samsung has hit critical mass and I have seen people buy Galaxy (not Android) just because their friends have it.

The app-gap is there only if you care about some not-so-mainstream app, which in my own experience is not why people buy Android. It is price + their friends.

Personally, what apps are you missing?

I hope MS doesn't make the same mistake that BlackBerry did. They need to fix/improve WP more before adding the Android runtime to the OS.
