Appy Weather. The most personal weather app. Made especially for Windows Phone.

Neowin community,

I'm writing to let you know about my recently launched Windows Phone app: Appy Weather. Yes, another weather app.

Like most, I picked a weather app not out of my love for the weather, but because it was the most practical on many levels. My priority was to build something where I'm not constantly wrestling with an idea, and so can instead focus on getting the design (and not concept) right.

The high-level objective was to show apps on Windows Phone can take design seriously. And if they generally don't, to demonstrate that it's not the platform's fault. To prove this to others as much as to myself in all honesty (and to show I can practice what I preach). Once I got started, I became determined to build not just the best Windows Phone weather app, but the best weather app. I don?t know if I have, or if I?ve come close even, but I can confirm that I sweated over every pixel for 9 months to give it my best shot.

One other thing I set out to achieve with the app was to build something that demonstrated that you could embrace Metro?s fundamental principles without needing to strictly follow the generic layout and navigation paradigm that most apps unimaginatively default to. To challenge myself, and the idea of what Metro is and can be.

Thanks for your time,
