Following the launch of Parallels Desktop 10 last month, VMware has launched its new VMWare Fusion 7 virtualization software, bringing support OS X Yosemite and improving compatibility with Windows 8.1. The release also adds a number of new features, including a new look, improved performance, enhanced connectivity, and optimization for Macs with Retina displays.

Indeed based on the marketing hype of both companies I should now be able to run 3.7 trillion copies of Windows Vista on 4mb of memory..... how many times can performance be "increased" yet stay exactly the same.

Fusion 6 CAN be used with Windows 8.1 as a guest (and in Yosemite - I know, because I have done so).  The issue with "retina" support is that Fusion 7 (unlike Fusion 6) actually supports the higher resolution available in the Retina MacBooks for the guests - that is important, especially in all-vmWare shops that have Macs.

I have Fusion 6 & the Yosemite beta and it works fine (there was a small update that came out a few days after the beta dropped).
