Annoying expanding ad

Recommended Posts

I don't like to complain about ads too much because I understand it is a revenue stream for the site, but this one particular ad is annoying because mousing over it makes it expand a YouTube video right in the middle of the page. Even just quickly zipping over it is enough to make it expand. Pictures of what I am talking about:

If there is nothing that can be done, that's cool. It just every visit results in this happening 2 or 3 times. To make it worse the video auto-plays which scared the crap out of me when I was browsing in dead silence in the middle of the night  :laugh:

Actually, I just noticed there is another ad n here that also expands. This one is even larger than the one in the OP. This is giving me pop-up nightmares from yesteryear  :|

If I catch it again I'll post.

I've had to block ads temporarily (I don't like to because I want to support the site) but it's too annoying to have to keep closing the expanded video.

If possible could you just block ads on the forum so at least Neowin get some ad revenue from you on the front page?

Can you do that in AB+? If someone can tell me how to.

Sorry for the late response, we actually should only get skinny 768x90 ads logged in as members. If you know how to use firebug, please inspect the ad element before it has a chance to expand and post the code result here (or in PM to me).

I'll need you to unblock again though and wait for it to appear again :s I will recheck our ad code in the forums to ensure that is in infact just the 768x90 sizes members see.

Edit: checked and we should only get 728x90, so if you can grab that code I will report it as a popup.

<div class="goog-modalpopup-bg" aria-hidden="true" style="position: absolute; left: 0px; top: 0px; outline: none; opacity: 0.7; z-index: 999998; width: 1524px; height: 6456px; background: rgb(102, 102, 102);"/>

I think that is it? (sorry, web dev isn't really my area). That is what seems to appear as the ad expands across the whole screen.
