Which Smartwatch

Recommended Posts

I?m off to the US, Orlando to be precise in a few months.

Now I've decided to pick up a smartwatch while I?m there.

I really had my eye on the Pebble Steel at $250 for a few months now, it has the looks, plenty of apps, open source and works with most phones. The only things that puts me off is it doesn't have a colour screen or touch screen. Not a complete show stopper.

The others I have also looks at is the Gear, again looks good, but it seems to be restricted to higher end Samsung phone range. I?m changing my phone within the month, currently got a S3, and thinking about HTC. I don?t want to be backed into a corner with the phone I get.

Also the Moto, not really read too much about it.

Really don?t want the Apple watch, I bit overpriced for my liking.

Has anyone got any opinions, good, bad or indifferent.

The Apple Watch wouldn't work with Android anyway, would it? If I'm right, it's basically just an extension of your iPhone.

I can't really offer any advice other than that though. I have no interest in buying a smartwatch, although if someone gave me one I would probably try and use it for a while. But because of that I've not really looked around.

I am 99% sure Nick is right in that the apple watch will not work with any android phone and needs to be linked to an iphone, so if you don't want to be forced into a specific phone this is the most limiting.

For me, and its based mostly on looks the Moto360 is the one to go for but as it's just released you'll probably have trouble finding one as I believe they are selling pretty well.

Thanks for your input guys.

Not gonna lie, the Moto does have the looks. However after reading some of the reviews, it isn't that great, poor battery life, and not that many apps available for it.

The search continues, I'll keep looking around.

There is another question I have to ask our American cousins. If I'm going to buy a smart watch, is Best Buy the best place to do it, or is there somewhere else, in the Orlando area, that has a better reputation?

Just an FYI, I own the Samsung Gear Live, it works with other Android phones, I am using it with my LG G3. Since it uses Android Wear as it's OS, it is not restricted to just Samsung phones.

I also owned a Pebble watch. Definitely go with an Android Wear phone. The inclusion of color really makes it much better overall, and it ties into the overall Android OS very well.

I have read about some major issues with the Moto's battery life. However it is no doubt the nicest looking of the 3 from a fashion perspective.

I would strongly consider the LG G or Samsung Gear Live if you are looking to get one soon.

Going to have shortage of apps on any Android watch for a while . They all use Wear.  This will get better in time when more apps are developed for Wear.

MOTO 360 or bust!

though i will have to see LG watch in person too, as it also looks decent.

not sure i will actually spend the money on the smartwatch though... i am pretty happy with what my phone does.    and i like to wear my diving swiss watch too much to change for something with less then 1 day battery life.
