nabz0r Veteran Posted September 22, 2014 Veteran Share Posted September 22, 2014 Hi guys, I thought I start this since we have this for Servers, etc, why not for networking? You can show us your lab rack/home network setup, pretty much anything related to networking. ;-) Here goes mine: My firewall which is connected to the 2960CG switch (The white one on the rack) and everything else is connected to that switch. I moved my firewall from my desktop since it was taking space and mount it on the wall few month ago when I didn't have the rack. I have a Unifi Pro which is mounted on the wall (no photo at the moment) In the hall behind the mirror This is my lab rack. Would like to upgrade those old routers to 2811 and have two 5510 ASA and I am pretty much set. :-D I run NetFlow and Observium on that PC. It's fun to look at those reports. ^.^ GrayW 1 Share
riahc3
I don't care about anyone or anything in this thread. I just came here for BudMan  He has drawn up diagrams and written about it but we have never really seen pics. vcfan 1 Share

+BudMan MVC Posted September 22, 2014 MVC Share Posted September 22, 2014 hehehe - which reminds me I need to update my drawing.. But guys I don't have anything at home other than home equipment and a n40l is my virtual box. Its actually quite sad... Here is pic of my new unifi AC AP --- exciting huh ;) See the pretty blue led glow .. Oh here is my new sg300 switch -- exciting!! ;)
Roger H. Veteran Posted September 22, 2014 Veteran Share Posted September 22, 2014 Still drooling over that UniFI AC AP... did any 5Ghz N speed tests or even AC speed tests with it yet?
riahc3
sg300.jpgDo you color code the cables on purpose? Out of curiosity.
+BudMan MVC Posted September 22, 2014 MVC Share Posted September 22, 2014 Yes color is what I had on hand ;) Using the different helps in know that you unplug the correct cable... Yeah I have done some speed tests with AC, in a quick test I saw 490mbps over AC - this might be been a limit of my pfsense VM routing between segments. But either way not really a real world test because don't know of many mobile devices that have 3x3.. But I got a pcie card for my PC that has that for testing AC with at a 1300 connection rate. And I would never use wireless on a non mobile device - sorry but your not going to see 900mbps over AC - but I can get that using a wire for pennies compared to AC wireless costs.. I really do need to do some real testing - I did get my AC usb stick so could get some speeds around the house with a more realistic mobile type connection at 2.4N, 5N and AC.. What I can tell you on the unifi AP is I now can max out my internet pipe 58ish when before could not get close to that with my $40 tplink wireless router used as AP I thought about it for a couple of seconds, and while this equipment is in reach of home budgets - it might not be your typical home setup since those 2 devices are $500, which most home users are not going to spend nor have any need of some of the feature sets I wanted on a "home" budget ;)
