guitmz
Hi all :) Just purchased a new laptop (its going to take a while to arrive :( ) and wanted to know what you guys think. My old one (signature) was ok but the screen is just awful. 1366x768 14" is ridiculous for developing applications imo so I was checking out the options here in Brazil and as you may (or may not) imagine, there aren't many. I ended up with a Sager/Clevo reseller (the model is based on a clevo W650SJ afaik) named Avell, here`s the specs: i5 4200M (didn had the money for i7, i think the i5 is ok?) 8GB RAM DDR3 1600mhz 120GB SSD (ordered another 250 EVO that i will be adding to the hdd caddy instead of the dvd drive) 15.6" full hd IPS GTX 850M 2GB GDDR3 Paid $1280 USD (what do you think about it as well?)I will be using for daily stuff, streaming videos, playing games (duh hehe) and android/python dev. Thanks!
Mindovermaster Moderator Posted September 23, 2014 Moderator Share Posted September 23, 2014 Well, if you already bought it, anything we say won't really matter. It's alright for what you do. :) Xahid 1 Share

greenwizard88
Sux. Nahh, just kidding. Not bad specs, not a bad price either.
Praetor
Clevo's are hideous in design but since you live in Brasil and stuff is overpriced in there, there isn't much choice...
compl3x
What kind of games do you play? I don't know how well your laptop would run modern games on high/max/ultra settings @ 1080p.

Oh I dont mind it. As long as it runs fine... I play CS, Guild Wars 2, SWTOR at the moment. The other games I can run in my desktop pc which is more powerfull. Clevo's are hideous in design but since you live in Brasil and stuff is overpriced in there, there isn't much choice... True but I did find this model w650sj quite nice. I had a sager p150HM (i guess) and that was kind of ugly
Lenny Bruce
It's pretty good, regarding specs and price. Sadly, I don't know of the brand, so I can't say anything about the reliability of the brand...
guitmz
As for the price, I was like WTF. There`s a dell here that is i7 4500U 8GB RAM 1TB HD 15.6" FHD Touch AMD Radeon R7 M265 (64 bits) 2GB For the same price. C'mon, Brazil always makes me laugh. This dell is ridiculous, despite the complaints about its ###### wifi card and the utterly impressively garbage GPU

I prefer the clean lines of some of the lightweigh clevo/sagers. they are functional laptops so flashy gimicks are not needed. the good thing about their laptops is almost all of them are easy to service your self with out havign to totaly dismatel the entire laptop.
