Shiranui
Wicked. I was planning on getting a Note 4, but it looks like only the Note Edge is going to be available in Japan :/ . Might wait and see how this turns out.
Daedroth
I've been hearing these rumours for a few weeks now and I didn't want to believe it. :( My contract is up for renewal at Christmas and I was waiting for an announcement for a Nexus 6, but 5.9" is far too large. All I can hope for is that they release two different Nexus 6 models, like Apple did recently. I was really after a Nexus device for the vanilla Android experience but on decent hardware for a good price. I could look at getting a Nexus 5, however they've been discontinued in the main stores, such as Google, Play.com, Oo2 and Carphone Warehouse, making it harder to get it from a reputable store. Ideally I wanted to wait for another couple of weeks for the Google annoucement that'll take place on October 15th, but I'm wondering if there's much point now. SionicIon
Big phones are dumb, I'm already highly unsatisfied with my HTC One M8 DPI. What the hell is the point in a big screen when almost every company's take on it is lets size it all up! Seriously 480 DPI on the One M8 and Nexus 5 looks horrendous, widgets look huge, the text is too huge, "Work Days this..." , this what? This week?! Like damn, I'm about to crank that down to 400 or 390. It's just upsetting that Android handles large screens that way, Windows Phone 8 was bad on the Lumia 1520 until 8.1. At least on iOS 8, it gives you the option, do you want to zoom or have it standard? But they screwed the home screen, so much for staying out of the big screen market, it's just more icons... I like big phones, I just feel as though from that picture, that will be exactly how it is. The amount of icons in a row or column is horrific. You should be able to have more on your homescreens, not the less but sized up! Samsung does the same ######, everything looks big and huge on their Note phones. Even their S5 now that it's basically a phablet, does the same crap. I'm not saying lets ditch the phone UI and use a tablet UI, but it is really important to get the basics down first, it's a big phone, so you should be able to have more on the screen as the first benefit. With the new Chrome Material Design UI, I noticed the address bar got bigger! I couldn't believe it, instead of making it smaller, they made it bigger. Almost like to make people think oh geez I need a bigger phone because this looks so big on here it takes up the whole screen, and then when you get a big phone, it's even bigger. I just feel as though phablets aren't done right. They don't need a stylus, but they could work with one. They don't need to make everything bigger, that doesn't mean better. What they need to do is revolutionize the home screen experience in a way that only a larger screen can do it. More icons, more widgets, more information in general. When I try and put widgets on my M8 with the stock DPI, I can't fit more than one at a decent size. iOS needs a home screen with widgets, Android L needs to tone down on the big widgets, big font, and all, for phablets, and Windows Phone just needs more apps to support larger screens because where there is support, Windows Phone does it right. dipsylalapo Supervisor Posted September 30, 2014 Supervisor Share Posted September 30, 2014 I guess it kinda figured with the name Nexus 6, still a huge shame. All I can hope for is that they release two different Nexus 6 models, like Apple did recently. Ideally I wanted to wait for another couple of weeks for the Google annoucement that'll take place on October 15th, but I'm wondering if there's much point now. I'm hoping for the same, two devices doesn't seem entirely absurd. Fingers crossed for an updated Nexus 5. Also just FYI, there's a Motorola event next week, on the 8th I think, where both the new phone and tablet and supposedly going to be revealed. So you may be waiting a shorted time to be disappointed :P snip Big phones may be dumb for you, but tell that to the millions of people who bought the 6 Plus and the G3. Let's hope that with the increased number of large screen phones/phablets the UI adopts too.

tsupersonic
Rather than affixing a number to the Nexus moniker, have a Nexus phone 2014, Nexus tablet 2014, etc. Nexus 6 works as a name, but Nexus 7 is taken up by the 2012/2013 tablets. This phone is far too big for me. Any phone w/ a display above 5"ish is far too big. If they do make this phone large, I think Google will lose a significant buyer base for this Nexus device. Astra.Xtreme
You'd think they would have looked at the sales numbers of the Galaxy S# vs the Galaxy Note, and make a smarter business decision.
Skiver Veteran Posted September 30, 2014 Veteran Share Posted September 30, 2014 This is still all completely rumour, the image and information is still based on "leaks" so until something official is put out which will hopefully be within the next few weeks, I'll remain optimistic that they haven't gone too far :( +E.Worm Jimmy 1 Share
spacer
I'll mimic what others have said, "big phones are dumb." and also add, "if you hold this thing up to your head to make a phone call, you look like an idiot." soniqstylz 1 Share

beanboy89
I have the Nexus 5, and I feel like it's the largest phone I feel comfortable using. Anything larger just seems overly cumbersome and will probably get dropped. +E.Worm Jimmy 1 Share
GigabitEthernet
I just cannot see this as true. It seems beyond comprehension why Google would say goodbye to 90% of the market? Also the fact that the Nexus phones are developer phones: the idea is that developing for a Nexus is supposed to be developing for the average Android phone. 5.9" is not the average Android phone! +E.Worm Jimmy 1 Share
DocM
If this phone is this large. I'm sitting this round out. No need to strap a tablet to my face and call it a phone... Use a headset. And they'll just get larger, perhaps peaking at 6.5". They're doing the phablet thing because they're popular, especially among those of us with large hands*. Another reason is that they're easier to carry than a tablet. They're selling so many of them in the US that the growth of tablet sales has been hurt. http://www.techtimes.com/articles/7751/20140529/phablets-tablets-smartphones-idc-research-idc-market-watch-tablet-demand.htm * my glove size is a US 12-13, so a 3.5-4.5" phone feels like a toy and I constantly hit 2 keys with 1 finger (OTOH, my Optimus G Pro is 5.5" and usable)
ManMountain
Not too keen on the larger size over my current Nexus 5 but when the 6 is available I'll see how it feels in the hand. To be honest, I'm perfectly happy with the 5, it remains the best mobile I've owned. Nogib 1 Share
