After 20 years of heavy reliance on its own productivity suite, Samsung will be switching to Microsoft Word across all its offices globally.
Recently, Microsoft CEO, Satya Nadella, paid a visit to South Korea where he met top government and corporate officials. One such meeting was held with the Vice Chairman of Samsung, Lee Jae-Yong. It is believed that the purpose of this meeting was to increase co-operation between the companies who became direct competitors due to Microsoft's purchase of Nokia's handset business.
Samsung's decision to adopt Microsoft Word in place of their own JungUm Global software for use in offices could be an outcome of Nadella's visit to the company. According to Samsung's press release, Microsoft Office holds nearly 90 percent marketshare among productivity suites and will help carry out business communication in a smoother manner with its partners.
Initially, the rollout of Microsoft Word will be limited to Samsung Electronics, but will be expanded in phases to all subsidiaries over the next year. Further the company has announced that it will continue to support corporate clients who use JungUm outside of Samsung till 2019 while individuals can continue to use the software even without Samsung's support.
