A few weeks ago, Microsoft unveiled the Lumia 830, a device that it calls "the first affordable flagship". That's quite a claim, but the company believes that it's struck the right balance of providing higher-end features in a thin and light package at a price tag that isn't going to completely break the bank.
Microsoft said that the Lumia 830 would go on sale in October, and with this being the first day of the month, it's wasting no time in getting the word out that the handset will be going on sale this week.
In certain markets, the device will go on sale tomorrow, and availability will gradually expand to other parts of the world, including China on October 13, and the US - on AT&T - in November.
Key specs of the Lumia 830 include:
- 5-inch HD (1280x720px) ClearBlack IPS LCD with Gorilla Glass 3
- Quad-core 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400
- 1GB RAM
- 16GB onboard storage (plus microSD support up to 128GB)
- 10MP PureView camera with ZEISS optics and LED flash
- 0.9MP wide-angle front-facing camera
- NFC
- Bluetooth 4.0
- Four colour options: black, white, orange and green
- 139.4 x 70.7 x 8.5mm; 150g
Microsoft has issued guidance suggesting that pricing will be around €330 EUR (roughly $415 USD / £255 GBP) off-contract, before taxes and subsidies. However, local pricing will vary from country to country, and carriers will set their own prices, so look out for further details on exactly how much the Lumia 830 will cost in your part of the world.
The Lumia 830 will be one of the first devices - alongside the Lumia 730/735 - to go on sale with the very latest Lumia Denim firmware pre-installed, including the most up-to-date OS version, Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1.
