Windows 8.1 add website you're not currently on to start screen

Recommended Posts

Hi

My department at work has just bought a bunch of ASUS Transformer T100 tablets.

I have been able to set these up just fine for the most part, but one thing I'm having difficulty figuring out - and there might not actually be a way - is how to add a website that you're not currently on to the start screen. E.g. is there any way of being able to manually type out the URL of the site I want to add to the start screen rather than having to actually browse to it?

The reason I ask, is because there's a page that I want to add to the start screen where, as soon as you load the page, it redirects to a different page, but if you browse directly to the second page you get an error message saying that direct access to that page is not allowed. So you have to reach the second page via the first page, but as soon as you load the first page it redirects to the second page. The website loads too quickly for me to hit stop on before it redirects.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Just create a shortcut to the website (Right Click -> New -> Shortcut) and pin it to your start screen.

Although according to this: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-desktop/add-a-shortcut-to-win-8-start-screen/3727e08e-6dec-45d9-aed8-b746f152ff7b

you can't pin a shortcut directly, so you have to place it in your Start Menu Folder (C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu) and then you can search for it on the start screen and pin it.

Not sure if there's an easier way if you have to do that for multiple devices though..
