Lamp0
I am using a Dell laptop with Windows 8.1. Any time I start up the program Speedfan I get this blue screen with the error: "Driver irql not less or equal (iaStorA.sys)" From seaching it seems to be something to do with "Intel Rapid Storage Technology", but I am not sure what I need to do to fix this. Anyone know how to solve this issue? EDIT: I don't know if it's related but my Laptop seems to be getting hotter than usual & the fan doesn't seem to be kicking in, although i can hear the fan when it starts up. +theblazingangel MVC Posted October 23, 2014 MVC Share Posted October 23, 2014 Start off by downloading and installing the latest Intel RST driver https://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=eng&keyword=%22Intel+Rapid+Storage+Technology+%28Intel+RST%29%
Lamp0
I tried the exe, but it says my platform is not supported. I then used the .inf from the zip file to try & update the driver via device manager, but it only gives me options for Intel 8 series & 9 series, mine is a 7 series. I have the latest driver from the Dell website installed which is "12.8.0.1016".
CougarDan
For an older motherboard you may need the Intel Matrix Storage Manager. Having the software is not a necessity though, so you can always uninstall it if it is causing a conflict with the Speedfan software.
+theblazingangel MVC Posted October 23, 2014 MVC Share Posted October 23, 2014 Motherboard (or in your case computer) manufacturer websites I my experience don't tend to always offer the latest drivers. They may update the ones offered through the support section of their website for your motherboard/device for a short period while it's still considered "current", then they stop bothering and you need to retrieve them from other sources, such as directly from intel in this case. Which download exactly did you try? There are a bunch in the list in the link provided that are not relevant. Go for the "Intel? Rapid Storage Technology (Intel? RST) RAID Driver" titled ones, and choose the "SetupRST.exe" file. You're on v12.8.0.1016. Latest is 13.2.4.1000: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=24293 If that one for some reason doesn't work, there are two other newer versions than what you're currently on: 12.9.0.1001: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=23496 13.1.0.1058: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=24006
Yelreve
If it's a laptop with a 7 series chipset then the latest drivers supporting it will be v12.9.0.1001 :)
Lamp0
If it's a laptop with a 7 series chipset then the latest drivers supporting it will be v12.9.0.1001 :) yep that one that installs. Unfortunately I still get this blue screen error though. It crashes when Speedfan scans SCSI. I definatly used to be able to run Speedfan without issue though, so maybe I should roll back to an older driver?
Lamp0
Ok, so After testing a few drivers it seems that "12.8.0.1016" is the newest driver that doesn't cause a blue screen error. Speedfan can run now without the system crashing. Although it reports this error after scanning SCSI: "ProbeSCSI: WARNING: hard disk skipped because of invalid returned LogSense data" I assume this is something unrelated? alvineng501
Don't Worry! It's an EASY Fix! I ran into exactly the same problem wafter I downloaded Speedfan 4.51 into my PC to set up my CPU fans to hopefully control my CPU temperatures. Weirdly, it did run the very first time , but after that 1st run, I kept getting the BSOD with the Driver _irq_not_less_or_equal (iaStorA.sys) error message. iaStorA.sys is the driver for Intel Rapid Storage Technology. I then Googled IRST to find the Intel page where I could update the IRST driver and once I did that, Speedfan ran perfectly fine without any BSOD! My system has worked fine now for several weeks sincce doing that! I'm also running Windows 8.1 64 bit OS on an older HP m9250f Pavilion PC with this setup.
