Triple Display Nvidia Card

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I'm looking for specific experienced advise in this matter, I'll explain why first.

I'm looking for help from someone who has first hand experience in this matter, reason for this is because I've spent hours trying to research this and it's giving me a headache.

I don't need google search links, nor do I need high end device links, that being said..

I'm looking for a single Nvidia (has to be Nvidia) graphics unit that is in the low budget, and can handle 3 displays by itself, (a non multi gpu sli configuration)

Reason;

I tried adding a 4th display (my TV) to my pc using my GT430 (now a secondary card it runs my 2 displays either side of my main, which in turn is powered by a better NVidia card, also as of now the gt430 is expendable) and after an hour of fiddling around I discovered that it can only handle a maximum of 2 displays, and I cannot force it to handle 3 (or at least I haven't found the setting)

Right now, I discovered <family event> my daughters will come into my room to watch me or my wife work on the pc, this is fine, but they get bored as young children do, so I decided to hook up my TV which sits above my workstation <for lack of a better word> so they can watch random Barbie dvd's via the pc's bd player, but it costs me one of my displays, hence why I'm asking if there is another user out there who happens to have such a card, and has first hand knowledge that it can indeed handle 3 displays by itself, So I or my wife can work with fewer distractions.

Please note, it needs to be a low budget option, I'm not one who can afford a titan black.

My thanks to you for taking the time to read this.

edit

My motherboard doesn't have on board graphics, (and I really don't want my main gpu to run 2 displays) apologies for forgetting to add this information

:)

The first question is how much are you willing to spend?

For right this very second, we haven't decided on how much more to spend on it, this new rig has already cost me ?1200+ and I'm not done yet, if you need a ballpark figure I'd prefer not to go higher than I have to in 2 figures

(or no higher and $100 US)

This would do the job according to the Nvidia website. This is the cheapest card that supports 3 monitors, or surround as Nvidia call it.

?79.99

Thanks, I'll have to discuss it, as this rig turned into a money pit really quickly.

I bookmarked it just in case :)

If your motherboard is fairly decent. The on board video should be able to do triple display. My motherboard was  $140 and it supports triple display via dvi\vga\mini display\hdmi.

Well caught, my motherboard doesn't have on board graphics, it's an ASUS ROG Crosshair v formula z

I've changed my OP to reflect the lack of on board graphics :)

Oh yes, the 750's pretty damn decent. If you can squeeze out a little more cash, I'd go for the 750 Ti - it's WELL worth it and will serve its purpose for you.

At this point, even though she loves the rig, she'd prolly kill me if I was to spend that, I guess I was hoping for a dirt cheap option, as I don't need it to do anything fancy with my side screens (I don't surround game or anything like that)

Also where you been? I haven't seen you active as of late....?

Never know unless you try. The problem with the 750 is it only supports 1X DVI and 1X HDMI vs the 750 Ti which supports 2X DVI and 1X HDMI. So again it might be worth trying. :P

I've been lurking in the shadows like a good little ghost...  :shiftyninja:

The nVidia 650, I beleive, can run 3 monitors at HD quality easily on 1 card. They have to be cheap by now.

I'm going to take a look :)

edit, so far, the cheapest one :) we might have a winner :)

A question, is this from personal experience or are you better at searching for information? <curiosity>

I will highly recommend you to go through this thread in which I mentioned which nvidia and AMD generations support 3 displays per card: https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1220527-3rd-monitor-connect/

- Nvidia 5xx below does not support 3 displays per card. while Nvidia 6xx onward support 3 display per card.

- AMD from HD5xxx onward support 3 display per card.

Nvidia 610, 620 and 630 are rebranded old generation which will have issue. So nvidia 640 or 650 whichever is cheaper, would be the best bet to go. If you prefer Nvidia. If you have no issue for AMD, you can pull the trigger for any few generations old and be happy.

If all you want to do is play DVD's or Blu-rays on the TV why not get a cheap Blu-ray player?

The Samsung BD-F5100 Smart Blu-ray Player is ?50, you could get a DVD player even cheaper too. Better than spending loads on a graphics card and messing about with the PC every time to enable the TV as a third screen.

I did think about it, but space, extra wiring and re-fitting new trunking would have made the cost escalate again, after spending time thinking about it and talking about it, my wife agreed it might be easier to just upgrade the card as all the wiring is already in place and trunked in, (originally when the tv used to be the third screen way back)

Before the Titan I have now I had a ASUS nVidia 650ti OC and loved it.

I used to run 4 monitors a few years ago.  Now I down to 2 at this moment.

I am thinking of adding a big monitor placed on the wall . between 24" to 30" something like that..

Right now I have 2 22" monitors.

:)

I had 3 x 27" (size did not matter as all 1920 x 1080p) on the nVidia 650ti OC and I ran Crysis 2 on ultra with no problems.

It seems you already have two cards, run the TV off the main card, not like any TV viewing will cause issues

It's just a preference, I only want my main card running my main screen, I can't seem to be able to get over it, You're right of course, but I'd prefer my secondary to run secondary screens :)

I'll look into pricing, at this moment the stock 650 is winning my wife over

Which is a relief as the cost of this rig went bezerk and it's only 5 weeks old

I don't think I could go back to two screens now (Not by choice at the least, too used to having em)

I'm currently running an Nvidia 640 at work and have 4 monitors running from it

My deepest thanks :) this is reassuring news :)

Problem comes down to the great evil that is the contents of my wallet, I'm seriously over budget (a few other personal concerns) and getting close to Christmas and my son's 16th birthday in December...

I was really happy with the quality and cooling for with the ASUS nVidia 650ti OC. I did not regret the purchase at all and recommend the card.
