Hard Drive recommendation

Recommended Posts

I have a bunch of games installed on my One and it is showing 91% full now. As I obtain more games, I obviously don't want to remove other games and apps I have installed. Can anyone recommend a good external drive for it? I have a 3TB Seagate USB 3.0 external drive with my computer stuff. WOuld that work fine and does the One format it and use it automatically?

You may want to move that data off the drive if it's important.  The One will wipe if completely, and reformat it for strictly One use.

Yeah I made sure nothing important was on it. The One handled it beautifully though. Just plugged it in and it asked a couple questions and formatted it in a couple seconds and now I have 3 more TB of space.

Here is a bit more about the external drive for Xbox.

External storage support. With this update, you'll be able to connect any USB 3.0-compatible drive with 256 GB or more of storage space to your console and then choose whether to use that drive for new game and app installs. This will help you overcome the limitation of the single, non-user-serviceable fixed disk that's in the Xbox One. And there are some nice additional features, like automatic spillover should a disk become full and the ability to move content between drives. And you can take your games to a friends' house with this external drive and then play them there, so there's no need to download them first. You can use a maximum of two drives simultaneously. There was a 3TB Seagate that was tested and recommended but I cant recall the model at the moment. Let me take a peek again and see if I can find it.

This line of drives seems to be being used by some folks with good results. You just have to pick your capacity.  Amazon

Got a 4TB WD External HDD for Christmas...

Moved all my games off the One and to the External...

To see all these games I already racked up, only taking 10% of my external is sweet...

I had 3.72TB of free Disk space after format...

I've only moved the Halo Channel App to the External so far... Will move them little bits at a time
