I've been hearing a lot of complains that the Playstation 4 and the XBOX One are not close to be able to play 4K games or just okay enough to play 1080p gaming. Ps4 has more power and will handle graphics longer than Xbox will in a few.

NOW, that 4K tv are being more cheaper and content has not get there yet with only Netflix and a hand full of 4K is out Bluray and Netflix 28 movies and tv shows. Was it too soon for the game consoles or we don't have the technology to play 4K games or at least keep it under $500 price tag. Also are all the $800 to $1800 4K tv that people are getting are only 30fps for 4K and 60fps for the 1080p screen mode? If that is true those 4K tv would be bad for gaming at 4k.

Seriously? This again?

The consoles are fine; and are doing what they should do at a very attractive price point. No more discussion needed.

Right on time to be frank. Just look at how much the PS3 and 360 have held back progress.

4K won't be mainstream for a very long time. Many are still getting used to the idea of 1080p. Besides the point, selling hardware that supports games at 4K would just be unaffordable for both consumers and MS/Sony.

I do believe however that the consoles should have been released with hardware that supported gaming at 1080p@60fps with the graphics they have now and in future could have head room to dial it back to 30fps but keep all the pretties. However, I guess that would mean it would have sold at an unattractive price point.

Not too early, but both machines could stand to be a little more powerful. 1080p/60 should be the standard at this point.

More power wouldn't fix devs/publishers that are bent on pushing as many polygons as possible with little regard to hitting the (user) coveted 1080/60. Either system is perfectly capable of hitting 1080/60. Just have to turn down the graphics a little bit or concentrate a bit harder on getting every ounce of performance out of the code.

If they made the hardware more powerful we'd still be seeing sub-1080P or sub-60 FPS simply because they'd just be pushing more polygons, use more physics, have more hair and grass all while they keep promising you better.

Multiplat publishers don't care about optimizing per system and take the easy way out. We will see some awesome 1st and 2nd party games that will be 1080/60 and look great within time.

It would be funny if console manufacturers took a hard stance and required games to run @ 1080p/60fps (before allowing developers to release games on their system). Unfortunately if that happened, graphical quality in games would likely take a huge hit (rather than developers optimizing their game engines) and the price of games would probably increase.

I am very happy with my PS4 and the graphics are amazing. I would love to have 4K though, but if you are using a 4K TV you can use upscaling and that makes the picture even better than 1080p.

I also agree that the next PlayStation should come earlier.

4K and 15 fps. The real true next-gen cinematic gaming experience.

Hardware wise the consoles were never designed to play 4K games, on the PC you need a graphics card which costs the price of a next gen console, maybe even two to have any chance of a good 4K experience.

Software wise I can only speak from the viewpoint of owning an Xbox One, however that was certainly released too early. Anyone who owned the Xbox One from day one will know how lacking it was, even in things you will now take for granted like getting in a party or viewing achievement details.

If the Xbox One was released today with the features it has now, option of having no Kinect, the USB tuner so people in Europe can make best use of the TV features and some must have games e.g. Master Chief Collection, Forza 2, Destiny and so on. I think it would have had a much better launch.

Microsoft messed up, however at least they have been on the ball releasing monthly updates and taking user feedback. That has impressed me and made the console a lot better in my opinion.

That's what I was thinking. People here think You can just buy an sub-bar graphics card on PC and You're set for 4K gaming. It's not that simple. Even most mid-range cards have an hard time to keep the FPS on playable levels. And people want an console to do that? Come on.

Yeah well said you two, 4K gaming sounds great but yeah to get it smooth on PC as you've said costs an arm and a leg.  people complained about the current price of consoles let alone if they tried to support that.

Unfortunately developers are in a good position, if the game doesn't run at 1080p/60 then the console isn't powerful enough and if they drop the graphics down to hit the magic numbers they can still turn around and blame the console :p  all sony / ms can do is keep throwing more power at it. Kind of reminds of the android ecosystem.

4K is i'd say more for the PC-Gamer because of the more easy to install updated hardware into the pc. 4K might of been out for a few years now, most people have not invested in the 4k TV's. I'm happy with my PS4 and my 3 year old HD 40inch Samsung, Does the trick!

I think for the market they're targeting they were released at the right time. Consoles are budget gaming and media management systems. Yes you can buy purpose built systems that do these things separately and better but they're far more expensive and generally need more user knowledge.

The reason a lot of people think they were released too early is because they're taking in to account Consoles Vs PC, an unfair comparison to draw.

Nope. 4K TVs might be out but content will take quite a while to become mainstream.

Even although it pales in comparison to a PC, the PS4 innards are absolutely fine. Average CPU, slightly better than average GPU and really good memory. Just wait till you see Uncharted 4 in December :)

My problem with the Xbox One and PS4, more so with Xbox One is that the graphics are not set up to run 1080p native easily without any drop of FPS or dropping graphics to hit the 1080p. One big reason was the hardware was too out of date when they release the system. Sony was smart enough to use DDR5 for the ram. I don't know why Microsoft was so stupid to not for see the upset of this and pricing it $100 more just because they did better with last system and you can do more with system.

In the end, both systems are perfectly capable of running 1080p/60fps when you think about it. The only reason why not every game runs like that is because mainstream console game developers have become such eye-candy news / attention seekers and want to rake in as much coins on the looks as possible.

If they only scale down on all of the useless eye-candy that they want to attract the mainstream average Western gamer with, and focus on bringing a more compelling gameplay, then we would have games running perfectly at 1080p/60fps. But no damn mainstream media is going to cover a game that runs perfectly while looking good, they all just want games that look like a real-life top model, without caring if she can cut her own bread pieces.
