Microsoft to launch Power BI for mobile, with iOS coming first

Microsoft is planning to bring Power BI to mobile, beginning with iOS.

An email was sent out this week to a small group of users. The email, titled “Power BI for iOS is coming soon – request early access now", suggests that a beta of the application on the Apple mobile platform is imminent.

The application is currently available on the desktop as part of Microsoft's Office 365 subscription. It works in conjunction with Excel to provide sharing and collaboration of data querying and interactive charting.

The application has been available for just over a year as part of Office 365 and seems to have been well received, with the Power Query feature (which allows you to pull data from online sources such as Wikipedia, directly into Excel) being particularly popular.

At this stage it is not clear as to whether the application will be free on iOS or not. As the desktop version is currently available on the desktop as part of Office 365, at no extra cost, it would seem logical that the application be free.

However, this is yet to be confirmed by Microsoft, who has not yet released official information about the beta test; more information is expected to be released shortly.
