Constant redirect to spam-ad using mobile website

Recommended Posts

Hi there!

I've been a Neowin-reader for many years, but have never registered or posted anything on the forums.

But today I noticed something very strange and I'd like to know if this has been happening to anyone else but me.

When browsing the mobile Neowin-website with my iPhone (using Safari), I get redirected to a spam-video-website. This is repeatable. I attached two photos to show you what is redirecting (tracking.kissmyads.com) and whereto.

Strangely this happens only when going to Neowin using my carrier.

If I use Chrome on my iPhone I don't get redirected. Seems they have a better blocker.

Neither when I'm on my WiFi at home. Seems my router is already blocking that spam-redirect as well.

Is this happening to anyone else? My carrier is 1&1 here in Germany.

Any infos would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

VSG

Saw this really quickly today too on my phone. I thought I might have clicked an ad but noticed it was a redirect. I am also in Germany.

This is on Android 5.0.2 on Chrome and was on HSPA as well. Sorry I didn't capture detains but I quickly just closed the tab and reloaded the browser.

Edit:

Ahh found it in my history on my phone...

Obviously don't click that unless you want junk. Lol

Thanks for your post! I was hoping someone else would add their experiences.

I had this problem again today - with two visits within a short time period. One redirected me again to the same spam-ad, the other redirected me to another spam-website.

Please, Neowin-editors, I know a website like this generates a lot of traffic and it's really expensive to keep things going. But what good is that income when the ads redirect your readers away from the articles without any possibility to get back?

The only consequence is to start using a browser with ad-blocking - then the redirect stops as well as the income.  :/

Please, is there anything you can do about this?

Best regards,

VSG

We never allow ads like this - we only allow unintrusive ads. Sometimes, however, some annoying ones slip through the net.

I'll pass this on so that it gets reported and removed :).

I was about to make a new thread on this, but I saw this post.. This only happens when I am on Facebook, and click on a story in the news feed. I am using iPhone 6 Plus 8.1.2 Safari. When I visit the site directly using safari, this doesn't happen..
