Did he just call a restroom a toilet?

That's not the nicest toilet that's the nicest restroom!

Would he says

"Excuse me I have to use the toilet"

"Excuse me sir, where is the toilet at?"

Washroom, Restroom, Toilet, Little boys room, who cares.    Toilet is correct.

A man in the bathroom kept handing me towels until I paid him to stop.

Toilet is completely appropriate, just depends on your origin.  In the UK, that's is the acceptable name.  I use the term all the time...

So you literally say "I have to go use the toilet?"

So you literally say "I have to go use the toilet?"

Men's room. Lavatory. Restroom. All euphemisms of "I need to expel waste".

Considering how many people worldwide have no access to safe and sanitary methods of this necessary human function, I wouldn't worry all that much about what someone calls it, just be happy you have access to it.

Why yes, of course I do! All the time.      I was fed up, with deciding which one is right "restroom" or "washroom"  and i don't need a rest or a wash.

I need a goddam toilet! There is also "powder room" - which i assume is any toilet in a party club, with people consuming "powder" so to speak.

it straight up says  "TOILETS" on many places in UK, US, CANADA, and yet people are afraid to name it, for what it is.

Between adults, we can use adult words.

What kind of conditioning makes you think it is unacceptable? :s

lots of words sounds crude.  why am i going to use ###### and ###### in front of my friends and not use toilet (the appropriate dictionary word) in front of an attendant.

it is ok, to call things, what they are.

Outside of the USA, yes, that is correct.

Here in England we have signs for "Toilets", and it's perfectly normal to say "I'm just going to the toilet", or "Where's the toilet?". Restroom doesn't really exist as a word here, and people would just look oddly if you say "I'm going to use the bathroom".

In the UK we often don't mention the 'toilet' but actually state to all concerned what we are going to do, ie

"I'm off for a dump"

"lay some cable"
"give birth to another [insert friend's name you are saying this to]"
"drop trowel"
"play Lincoln logs"
"bobbin for apples"
"take a grunt"
"be in my office"
"if Im not back in 2 hours call paramedics"
"in a meeting"
"drop the kids off at the pool"

I thought toilets was the correct term? Every public toilet etc here has the words "toilet" on the door. Or if your at a shop or someones house you say "excuse me where is the toilet" etc. Never used any other word.. .
