Display port to dual link dvi

Recommended Posts

Why is the converter for this so expensive?

I have a Qnix 1440 monitor that only supports dual link DVI. I want to hook it up to my macbook pro but it seems to require a special connector which is ~$100...

am I really stuck spending $100 on this? I am totally regretting this 1440 monitor....

well...you could use a normal displayport to dvi cable, but in that case you would be restricted to full hd resolution. So...I don't think you have a choice, can't you return the monitor?

+1 for monoprice - the best site there is for that type of stuff.

I guess this is why those Korean monitors are cheap- they use parts that other manufacturers wont use (only DVI on 1440 ?)

Have you ever compared the picture to a Samsung, Dell Ultrasharp, or ASUS 1440 ?  Just to see if the price savings was worth it ?  (just curious)

For a brief second I considered saving $$ and getting one of those Korean 1440, then decided I better just go with a bame brand and got the ASUS PB278Q.  @ $500 I wish I would have spent more and bought the ProArt or a top of the line 1440/1600.  This is nice, but it doesnt knock my socks off anymore...

All DP to DVI-D adapters have pretty bad reviews so keep that in mind, it may not work as well as you'd like. I own the Apple adapter (it's better quality than the cheaper ones, IMO) and it works pretty well. My best advice is do NOT plug the USB plug into the PC/Mac to power the adapter as it may not be enough to get stable/enough power from the USB port - otherwise you'll encounter issues with signal dropouts, snow, etc. It's best find an USB adapter to get power from the wall.

You can get a Korean special with DP, HDMI and DVI, tends to add ~100 to the price, monoprice has a couple, Amazon also has a few, wouldn't buy from anyone else ATM, they warrant their equipment, good luck with that on bay

I currently have a 1440 Qnix at 27 and a 30 Monoprice 1600, both have DVI by choice, the 1440 can be overclocked to over 90mhz, ran it like that for a while, you can't do that on the multi input model, and by some reports it also has a slower response time, the 1600 was a spur of the moment birthday present  from Mom :)

Still debating which one is better and adjusting the colors on the 1600, really wish I could borrow or rent a calibrator around here

I bet all those screens are TN panels as well. it's as if resolution is all that matters.
