Sling TV not ready for Xbox One at launch, but app and free preview coming 'soon'

Invitations for Sling TV are going out today to those who pre-registered, but the streaming television service's users won't get an Xbox One app right away, though Microsoft says that will soon change.

The $20 service, which offers 12 base channels and two $5 packages with more channels, allows users to watch television on a variety of devices – including anything with a web browser – as it airs live. While several apps are already available, including Android and iOS apps, the Xbox One app will take longer to develop.

"We're always working with our partners to deliver rich, differentiated experiences on Xbox One, and sometimes that takes a little extra time," a Microsoft spokeswoman said in a statement to Neowin. "We look forward to bringing Sling TV to Xbox One soon."

When reached for comment, a Sling TV representative said she had no details to share regarding a release time frame for its Xbox One app.

Though the app isn't immediately available, it will come with a bonus when it is: a month-long free trial of the service. All Xbox Live members on Xbox One will receive a free month's trial, Microsoft announced the perk earlier this month, while the service offers a free week-long trial on other platforms. When Microsoft and Sling TV first announced the deal, they said the app would arrive "in the coming weeks."
