Enabling TRIM on RAID-0

Recommended Posts

To enable TRIM do I just have to enable Intel RST in UEFI and install up-to-date drivers for it?

I have an Intel Z87 motherboard, so it should be supported.

Yea, should be. What value do you get when you go into command prompt and type:

fsutil behavior query disabledeletenotify
0 = TRIM enabled

1 = TRIM disabled

I get a 0

You should be good to go then.  Within the link I posted above they mention another tool to verify that not only the TRIM is enabled...but also working.

This program has no GUI, it runs in a command prompt window and is great for cases where certain software use cheap workarounds that cripple TRIM in order to ensure SSD compatibility (TrueCrypt/drivers). In such cases fsutil will still show that TRIM is enabled, regardless if it really works or not. With this tool you'll know for sure.

Guide to see if TRIM is actually working:

  1. Download the latest tool version from ?here?.
  2. Copy the .exe file into the root of your SSD or SSD array.
  3. Right click onto the .exe file and run the tool as Administrator.
  4. Hit the "Enter" button.
  5. Exit as instructed, this will create a .json file as part of the test.
  6. Create and delete a new folder on the drive. Then empty the recycle bin.
  7. Re-run the tool as Admin 15-30 seconds later.
  8. If you should get the message "TRIM appears to be NOT WORKING," re-run the tool in intervals of round about 15 seconds.
  9. At least you should get the message "TRIM appears to be WORKING" (provided it really is active within your single or RAIDed SSDs).

I've never used the above tool/method so I can not attest to it... I figure the "fsutil behavior query disabledeletenotify" is good enough for me.  If you are concerned that TRIM isn't actually working (even though it is enabled)...you may want to give the above a shot.
