780TI vs 980 EVGA Superclocked

Recommended Posts

I currently have the 780TI superclocked edition from EVGA. Wondering if the same edition for the 980 would be worth the upgrade?

I have tried to look at reviews, but seems varied quite a bit. I know one benefit is the 4GB or 3GB, but besides this...

I would wait until you hit a performance limit with newer games when/as they are released. No point paying the premium to upgrade now.

That does not answer my question.

I thought my signature would point out, I run at 2560x1440 (not three monitors at once, just one)... So I am already seeing new games have issues playing, having to turn certain things off.

Most of the benchmarks I've seen don't show a huge gain. If you could get some money out of your 780, then might be worth doing. Other than that, SLI might be option if your board can handle it.

Once DX12 comes out, the 980 would be better for that, so it wouldn't necessarily be money down the drain. You just wouldn't see HUGE gains right away.

Here is the conclusion for one review, specifically mentioning upgrading from the 780TI:

We have the same processor, motherboard and graphics card, and I can definitely see where this is coming from. I'm pretty disappointed the 780Ti showed signs of age so early on

SLI might be your best option.  2 GTX 970s?
