So my $79 HP Windows 8.1 tablet arrived today. I ordered Mine on Sunday when I saw the front page. Over all it's a great little tablet. Feels nice in the hand, a little on the heavy side, but at the same time doesn't feel cheep.

The viewing angles are great for such a cheap device.

The first boot where it said installing all your apps, took a while probably around 3 mins.

The screen resolution looks great, everything to me looks sharp. I did notice some back-light bleed on the bottom of the tablet. Desktop is nice and snappy, with a few things open. IE page scrolling on the desktop works great.

Metro apps are smooth.

I haven't messed with it but more than maybe an hour. But this is where others can talk about their experiences with it.

Screen looks much better than is portrayed in the photo.

Did you load the Win10 Tech Preview on it? I was tempted to get this, but missed the boat.

Looks like a convenient little device though.

Missed what boat? it's still $79

I'm putting the next win10 build on my Encore Mini, should definitely be an improvement.

Well I want to get the Micro to USB adapter.

Looks interesting.  Does it have a separate USB and power ports or is it a combined USB/power port?

Combined. Though you can buy a cable which lets you hook up multiple regular USB's to that port.

Just ordered this cable. Hope it works

Just a head's up, but if the system is compressed, i.e. WIMBoot, you might have issues installing the Win10 preview requiring some jumping hoops to do.

*edit- Stream 7 is WIMBoot so have fun. ;)

Great tablet, there's just a few things that bothers me. Why can't they put a full size USB port on this? The WinBook TW700, a $65-70 Windows 8.1 tablet has a full size USB port and it can charge and use USB peripherals at the same. There's also a mini HDMI on the WinBook while this doesn't offer any ways to connect to an external display other than WiDi.

Hooking up a USB hub isn't the issue I was concerned with.  Can you power/charge the tablet at the same time you are using the USB port?  I used to have a Dell Venue 8 Pro tablet with a combo port and it was kind of a hassle to do both at the same time.

True, but this also has twice the storage.

anyway I just created this account so I can ask you this one question. I got mine on Monday and HP stream 7 have the buzzing noise and interference issue when you plug a headphones in the audio jack that some are reporting. Just wondering if you have this issue? Plug in a headphones in the audio jack, open Windows Media player or Xbox music apps and then use the touch screen and you might hear the buzzing noise if you have the issue.

While on Amazon today buying some cheap USB sticks for making a recovery drive I came across some USB drives which I didn't know they made.

It's a OTG compatible flash drive. Regular USB on one end, and Micro USB (for phone and tablets on the other). After looking around there were a LOT of really small ones. But in my experience really small ones get lost really easily. So I went with a bigger one. I don't care if it looks huge sticking out my tablet or phone, at least I won't loose it. They did have 16GB USB 2.0 ones for $10. But this one is a USB 3.0 OTG 8GB one.

This particular one had no reviews, so I guess i'm gonna be a the first. If works good I might make a thread about it when it arrives.

After seeing this thread I just ordered one myself. Did you end up getting a case for yours? I was looking and the HP cases seem to be way over priced and the rest are just generic 7 inch tablet cases that are bulky.

Just FYI that Winbook for $59 has a full size USB port - http://www.microcenter.com/product/439773/TW70CA17_Tablet_-_Black

But at the same time less space. My WinBook has only 2.5gb free after installing all the windows update while the HP Stream 7 has 15gb free. While this isn't an issue for desktop apps as you can install them on an microSD card, you can't do the same for Modern apps without some tweaking.
