I need some suggestion about mail services

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have a simple question, i'm near to chose my default email address, actually i'm using an email that my ISP has gived to me, an ugly email with old interface and stupid username (yes stupid! They assign a random generated number)

i have the possibility to chose:

My name is (an example) Stefany Roxette Doe

name.surname@outlook.com   (stefany.doe@outlook.com)

name.s.surname@gmail.com  (stefany.r.doe@gmail.com)   (on gmail only this combination)

What do you suggest?

I don't know how to manage my second name into email and if is better Gmail or Outlook, for service and reliability.

I have tried to register and they are free, but i'm need only an account.

What's your ISP?  Never knew of an ISP that assign you a random default account name like that.  Must be something new.  But from what I know, many of the ISP allows you to create up to 7 (some up to 11) email account.  I would not think that Outlook and Gmail can be considered as an ISP.  Perhaps if you reveal your ISP this post make more sense.

I prefer Outlook.com for a lot of reasons, including cross-platform capability, privacy, and the clean interface. Outlook is backed by Microsoft Exchange Server; so synchronization with all mobile devices of all of your data is very easy (well, except for pre-10 Blackberries).  But since both services are free get both and try them out.

Also, have you considered getting your own domain name? This way you can keep your address no matter which provider you choose. It wouldn't be free, but you're still looking at only a few dollars a month depending on which provider you pick.  For example, ste-rox.com is available. Or what about doeroxster.com?

Food for thought?

Actually you can get free email hosting through Zoho Mail for up to 1 domain and 10 emails if you want custom domain. You also get IMAP to sync with any mobile or desktop computer. But from the sound of it you are just looking for a simple personal email in which case both Gmail and Outlook are just fine. I personally use Outlook nowadays with my old Gmail account simply forwarding mail. I like the clean and simple interface first and foremost but also I have grown to not like Google so much lately.

Also note with Microsoft you get a lot more than simply an email. You also get free Office Web Apps (Word, Excel, PowerPoint in your browser) as well as OneDrive. Google has similar offerings but in my opinion Office Web Apps are second to none as far as features, ease of use and compatibility. Microsoft also offers free Office Mobile which you can install on your iPhone and work on documents in your OneDrive cloud storage. Outlook for iPhone is also one of (if not) the best email apps out there as well.

Best of luck.

I personally don't like using underscores (_) - requires you to press Shift key on your keyboard to type it plus to me it doesn't look as professional (maybe just personal preference). Also I believe Gmail makes name.surname@gmail.com the same as namesurname@gmail.com (sending mail to both will come to you). Not sure how Outlook works as far as that goes (I assume the same way) so for those reasons I would go with a dot instead of underscore.

If Outlook has namesurname@outlook.com (lets you skip the middle name hence fewer dots) then go for that instead.

Im in a similar situation as you but I want to use my own domain name, as I already have firstnamelastname@outlook.com (gmail doesnt let me :( )

firstname@lastname.com

email@firstnamelastname.com

So many options...
