Google Account and Play: it require to use gmail?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

my question is simple, I have bought my first android device and now I have a problem.

I'm using a personal domain for email address.

Now I need to create a Google Account to access the store and the service offered by Google.

With Apple an appleID can be every email address.

But with Google Play account? It's possible to create an account with my email or I need to open a Gmail account?

Thanks

You can create a Google account, and when it asks you for an email address you can just select the option that says, "I want to use my own email address" (i.e. the same as an Apple ID.)

If you have an EXISTING GMail address (which I do), simply use it.  Alternatively, you can create one (or use an existing e-mail address of your own).  What services you lose are those specifically tied to a Google Account (if you don't use one).  Still, it costs nothing - so why NOT use it?  (And because it can be used with any mail program that supports IMAP (such as Office 2010 and later - this includes Office365, by the by), what is the harm?.  (My GMail account is used only by Google services - nothing else.)

My Apple ID is (perversely) my Outlook.com e-mail address - with a different password.  (My AppleID is used by my Apple-provided services - from Apple Developer Connection to iCloud.)
