Mario Kart 8 To Receive Blistering 200cc Class In Free Update

Recommended Posts

Mario Kart 8 will be introducing a new class to the franchise through a free update later this month. The update, which launches on April 23, will add a new high speed class to the experience: 200cc.

Ever since the series debuted in 1992 on Super NES, the Mario Kart franchise has capped at 150cc, which to this point has served as the ultimate challenge for hardened Mario Karters. With this new update, players will be able to test themselves even further with speeds not seen in the series to this point.

The free update is set to be made available on April 23 alongside the premium Animal Crossing x Mario Kart 8 DLC pack. The update also adds more Mii racing suits, including Sonic, Mega Man, and Pac-Man, which are unlocked through tapping the corresponding Amiibo figure on the GamePad.

That sounds really cool.

150cc can be frustrating sometimes, not because it's fast but because the AI tends to cheat somewhat. That balanced with extra speed should make it interesting!

Too true. It does feel like such a cheat when you're just about to cross the line and the AI just wipes you out. It is more fun when you friends blue shell you or something,. but when the computer does it, it feels like the system is giving them an unfair advantage that no human player would have.

200cc looks great. Can't wait to give that a try!

The Animal Crossing DLC is pretty underwhelming though. I want to see a wider selection of Nintendo IP in the roster one day, ala SSB.

But it is called Mario Kart though, keep that in mind. It's not the same as SSB.

I agree, but they obviously don't care about that boundary anymore when we have AC and Zelda DLC.
