dragon2611
Does anyone know of some Decent Antivirus/Security software that when I turn it OFF it actually turns off properly not "I'm OFF but I'm still going to interfere with what you are trying to do and what's worse I'm not going to bother to inform you I'm blocking something" I just had to actually uninstall ESET after it was preventing the Jviewer Client for a Server IPMI from working, despite me turning it off and disabling the NDIS driver in my NIC settings, what's worse is it seemed to even affect traffic from a VM running on my PC (I tired an XP VM with an older Java version to rule out Java issues) I must have wasted over an hour troubleshooting because I stupidly believed that when I turned my firewall off it was actually off. This is the second problem I've had with ESET blocking things silently when it shouldn't I had fun trying to reflash the firmware on a DSL modem recently because ESET was doing something funny that was preventing me accessing the CFE's webserver. I didn't quite have to go as far as uninstalling it but I did have to not only switch the firewall off, but also disable their lightweight filter driver on the NIC in that instance.. I've had similar problems with bitdefender in the past where it's tried to block what it thought was a malicious URL but the URL had been since cleaned and despite being set to OFF it was still doing it. The vast majority of the time I want the security software (Antivirus/Firewall) running but very occasionally when troubleshooting something I do need to disable it to rule it out as a possible cause, I don't consider it to be an unreasonable expectation that if I set my Antivirus/Firewall to OFF that it actually disables cleanly. Sikh
Good luck with that. I have found one security suite that can unload all of its services and necessary components when you click off. Its meant to load some of them on startup so it can do real time memory and system scans so when you unzip that virus filled zip file, it can catch it right away. I believe because of this, its hard to kill those services. Hell if you try killing them manually yourself, using task manager or command line, you will get a Access denied most likely. Luc2k
Webroot can be completely stopped I believe.
goretsky Supervisor Posted April 14, 2015 Supervisor Share Posted April 14, 2015 Hello, Many anti-malware vendors are shy about offering a "permanently disable" option, because malware might try to trigger/enable it. Have you checked with ESET's support to see whether your were disabling the software properly, or it was a bug, etc.? oldtimefighter
Full security suites are not needed these days (if they ever were) and that is just one of the reasons why... They are more trouble then they are worth and one really only needs a good free AV program.
dragon2611
Been trying avast new business version which seems quite nice for a freebie, did have to switch the web scanner off when using the Jviewer applet as otherwise it doesn't receive any video. I wish they'd just release a native app for the IPMI's KVMoIP function rather than relying on a Java webstart app,
